Breaking Down the NFC East

1. Cowboys - yea they are the favorite in this division and have a tremendous offense but lets not jump the gun. Who knows if Miles Austin can put together a season like he did last, most of his production was from those 200 yard performances in 2 games I believe. Roy Williams sucks and everyone knows it, Dez Bryant is a guy a lot of people are saying is the real deal and expect him to be the #2 WR. That's a lot of pressure for a young kid, and Jason Witten is a beast. The running game needs to stay healthy and after last year Marion Barber III needs to prove he can bounce back from the injury. And if we know anything it's that the NFC East battle each other and you will lose a couple games in the division alone. Lets look at the Cowboys tough games that will be hard to win or WILL lose. Week 6 @Minnesota is a loss, Week 9 @Green Bay is a loss and Week 10 @ the Giants is a loss. That's 3 losses already, they play New Orleans on Thanksgiving and Indy THE WEEK AFTER!!! That's a ridiculous schedule, even if they beat the Giants twice this year with the games listed they lose 4 games. Then you know what happens, crazy plays and somehow they lose to the Skins one game and the Eagles can take them down in their house because of the nature of the game. People are verrrrrrry high on the Cowboys without being realistic, the schedule in front of them is very tough. I'd say at best 12-4, probably 11-5.

2. Giants - The mantra of Eli Manning is over rated of he stinks has become some sort of fad amongst NFL fans. I've even heard people say Eli was awful last year after posting his best statistical season of his career. Eli threw for 4,000 yards last year with a bunch of young kids and no "clear cut #1" with Plax gone. The running game for the Giants last year was beyond terrible and the amount of injuries they had on defense it was surprising they didn't lose more games. With Kenny Phillips, Aaron Ross healthy the defense will be improved. Osi and Tuck healthy + a new D coordinator in Perry Fuel the Giants are predicated on their health. Lets not forget they added Antrel Rolle and if Keith Bulluck can stay healthy he could be a good replacement for Pierce. This year the Giants have alot to prove and they have a bunch of ? but Eli is the real deal and people need to stop discrediting him. I got the Giants at 10-6 this year factoring in 2 losses to the Cowboys, 1 to Philly, and 3 to Green Bay, Indy, Minnesota.

3. Redskins - Many are saying this team will be awful and that even #5 will not change things. McNabb is a huge snag for the Skins but they are still lacking many pieces. Eagles fans have been calling Donovan a bum for years and are rejoicing that he is gone and that the Kevin Kolb Era has begun. Calling Donovan a bum is just stupid, the guy has a hell of an arm and took the Eagles to the Super Bowl and NFC Championships...yes he didn't win but he isn't a bad QB. Philly fans hate him for dumb reasons but he doesn't suck. The Redskins on the other hand are weird, new coach, new QB and A TON OF OLD +$+ RUNNING BACKS. Their defense should be ok but they have no WR threats and I don't see much success for them. 7-9 at best.

4. Eagles - I'm not buying the Eagles with Kolb, I think the one that will hate this move and suffer from it the most is Desean Jackson. The eagles are old on defense and just don't scare anyone anymore. I think they are slowly entering a rebuilding mode as the Redskins should be instead of loading the team with washed up players. Eagles will go 8-8 and everyone will call for Andy Reid to be fired.

Should be a interesting fight in the division as always, football is right around the corner.

Brewers Looking to Move A Prince?

The Milwaukee Brewers are fielding offers for star first baseman, Prince Fielder.

Fielder is having a rough 1st half of the season, although the power is still there with 19 homeruns, a low RBI total, 38 and a .266 batting average has sprung up trade talks. More of a factor is the price tag Fielder would command in the offseason when he becomes a free agent. Many believe Milwaukee will not be able to sign him back and are looking to get something for him now.

But where can he go? What would be the best fit for Prince Fielder?

Prince is not a terrible first baseman but maybe a DH spot in the AL would be more fitting. So lets take a look at teams that could use a power bat to put them over the top in the 2nd half of the MLB season.

1. Tampa Bay Rays - The Rays are dangerous right now and will be fighting the New York Yankees and Boston Red Sox for the AL East crown all year. Adding Prince to a line up with Crawford, Zobrist, Longoria, Upton, Pena would be an amazing fit. He could spell Pena at first, and hit homers all the time in the dome. Yes he more than likely would be a rental player for them but it would give them a great shot to win the AL East.

2. Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim - The loss of Kendry Morales was a tough one to swallow and he may not be back all year. The Angels are in a world of hurt at the 1B position and could use a power bat to supplement the loss of Morales. Along with Hunter, Abreu, Matsui, Fielder would help them beat the Rangers in the AL West.

3. Chicago White Sox - A team in the thick of things in the AL Central they could use a bat to ward off the Detroit Tigers and Minnesota Twins. Fielder could provide excellent protection around Paul Konerko who is having a great year, Carlos Quentin and Alex Rios.

Prince Fielder would be a great asset for any team, and could put them in prime contention to win a ring this year. Fielder will certainly look to have a better 2nd half, but I have a feeling if he continues to crush baseballs, teams, especially in the AL will take the sacrifice.

Decision Made, LeBron to Miami.

"The Decision" has been made, Miami wins. It looks like they will be winning for a very long time. LeBron James yesterday announced on national television that he was leaving Cleveland to go play with Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh is South Beach.

While fans in Cleveland cried and burned his jersey, fans in Miami went crazy and rushed to buy season tickets. Fans in New York were upset as well, (I was in NYC last night after the decision and everywhere you looked someone was saying 'F*** LeBron') those in New Jersey and Chicago knew they had no chance.

On to the analysis. LeBron made this decision in order to win. I thought the best place for his to go would have been New York. It would have revitalized the NBA in a completely new way. Not only would there be dozens upon dozens of story lines heading into the season but rivalries galore. If LeBron went to New York imagine opening night of New York vs Miami, Bosh and Wade vs Amar'e and LeBron. Christmas; Kobe and Gasol vs Rose and Boozer. The big three in Boston vs Dwight Howard and the Magic, tons of possibilities.

Instead LeBron chose the championships and the best CURRENT opportunity to win not just one ring, but multiple rings. Tons of bitter Cleveland and New York fans are saying that LeBron took the "coward" way out and that he owed it to the city of Cleveland or he strung along New York, which is a load of crap. LeBron owes the city of Cleveland nothing, and I mean it, not one damn thing.

LeBron James single-handedly revitalized the city of Cleveland by restoring the basketball program, boosting the economy and putting basketball back on the map in that state. Before LeBron strolled along the only thing Cleveland basketball was known for was Michael Jordan draining a jumper and Craig Ehlo dropping to the court like a sack of potatoes. He played seven years in Cleveland took them to the playoffs and a NBA Finals, won multiple MVPs, all-star game appearances and many more accolades. He did not win a ring, but that isn't completely his fault. The organization never gave him the proper "Robin," an old Shaq doesn't count, Antwan Jamison is awful and Mo Williams doesn't even deserve to be called "Cat Woman." He did all that he could for that franchise and it was time to move on.

The worst part about this entire situation was the way it was handled and LeBron is receiving a lot of grief about it from fans and sports talk shows everywhere. This whole "The Decision" on ESPN was completely unnecessary for him to announce that he was going to Miami. The day before that, at 12:30pm on SportsCenter Bosh and Wade made their decision. If LeBron knew he was choosing Miami why not save face and just hop on SC with them and do the announcement like that. It would have saved him so much aggravation if it was handled in a more mild-manner sort of a way. Aside from that, the decision itself is not one people should be angry at. It was a decision to go and win, it was not about the money or the fame, it was simply about the rings.

Following LeBron's decision Cleveland Cavaliers owner Dan Gilbert made a fool of himself and put himself into a hole he wont be able to get out of in the near future. Gilbert issued and statement ripping apart James that made him look like a sore loser and cry baby. Gilbert called LeBron "a former hero" "narcissistic" and "disloyal." Also saying this bold statement:

In the meantime, I want to make one statement to you tonight:

"I PERSONALLY GUARANTEE THAT THE CLEVELAND CAVALIERS WILL WIN AN NBA CHAMPIONSHIP BEFORE THE SELF-TITLED FORMER ‘KING’ WINS ONE"

You can take it to the bank.

YEA RIGHT DAN.

Today Miami introduced Wade, James and Bosh to the Heat fans where there was a "party" followed by a press conference. The press conference is what struck a chord with me the most. LeBron answered questions to which he forcefully stated that his decision was about the W column and getting championships. It was a prime opportunity for them to play together like they did in 2008 for the USA Olympic team where they won the gold medal. All three of them seemed to be on the same page mentally and really knew what they were getting themselves into. If this goes how it seems on the surface the NBA should be very, very scared. Yes the Los Angeles Lakers are the 2-time defending champions right now and they are the favorite for next year right now because we do not know who will fill out this Heat roster, but the Heat will be dangerous in 2010-2011.

The figures for the contracts came down of all three, LeBron James and Chris Bosh both agreed to six-year $110 million dollar deals. Dwyane Wade signed off on a slightly smaller deal of six-years $107 million dollars. Each took 15 million dollars less than they could have with other teams in order to play together and win. They left that money on the table so that a team could be built around them. In this case no one lied, it is about winning, it is not about the money, it is simply about the hardware.

Now that it is over, moves can be made and we can get on with out lives. NBA teams will focus on getting better, adding players to their rosters, the summer league and then the season will begin. LeBron's decision is one he will have to live with, and for his sake I hope he win 10 championships with the Heat. He has to or else he will be vilified for the end of time.

The great ones always want the ball in their hands at the end of the game, when the pressure is on. Well LeBron congratulations the weight of the world is on your shoulders with this decision, your move.

Kevin Durant Re-Ups with the Thunder

Shortly after Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh announced their decision to play for Miami, Kevin Durant dished some news of his own that went under the radar.

Kevin Durant and the Oklahoma City Thunder agreed on a 5-year $86 Million extension. Last year Durant became the youngest scoring champion in NBA history.

Last year the Thunder shocked many as they went into the playoffs with such a young team, and gave the Lakers a fight. The Thunder have a core nucleus of Durant, Jeff Green and Russell Westbrook that seems to be ready to cause problems in the West for a long while.

Boozer Bulldozes his way Back to the East

Carlos Boozer has agreed to a 5 year $80 million deal with the Chicago Bulls.

A huge move for Chicago that solidifies their front court with a combo of Joakim Noah and now Carlos Boozer. Along with Derrick Rose this makes Chicago a great contender. It seems the one thing missing from this Bulls team is a solid shooting guard.

A key here is that the Bulls even with the signing of Boozer still have enough cap space to sign LeBron James.

I believe he will not sign with Chicago, regardless of that face, Boozer to Chicago is a great move.

Wade and Bosh Team Up In Miami

Well it wasn't a hour long special but Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh sat down and spoke with ESPN's Michael Wilbon to announce their destination.

Both will be playing together for the Miami Heat.

The big question now is will LeBron comes with them. Financially it will leave the Heat crippled but it could be the start of a dynasty.

Miami has limited financial wiggle room even without signing LeBron, but that does not matter at this very second. It is all about the foundation of Wade and Bosh. A dynamic duo that will be a force to be reckoned with.

Miami now has 4 players on their roster along with the two that signed today are also Michael Beasley and Mario Chalmers. The Heat might want to get some more if they want to contend this year.

2 major dominoes have fallen, the biggest one of them all falls tomorrow at 9pm.

LeBron to Make Decision Thursday on ESPN

That's right folks, the moment you all have been waiting for will finally arrive Thursday on ESPN at 9pm.

LeBron James, the most prized free agent in the 2010 class will decide his suitor on live television, something we haven't seen before. It's almost like a college basketball player declaring his school by being in his high school gym and putting on a hat.

This will be the 2nd biggest television event this year, behind the series finale of LOST.

- The big news of the day was the Knicks landing Amar'e Stoudemire with a 5 year 100 million dollar deal.

- Dwyane Wade spoke with Heat owner Micky Arison on Monday, but it wasn't a formal meeting and doesn't change Miami's standing offer of six years and $125 million.

- Free agent PG Raymond Felton is expected to meet with the Knicks and Heat this week.

- Allen Iverson still hopes to play in the NBA next season, "[to] help any team that wants me, in any capacity that they feel that I can help."

- Jazz VP of player personnel, Walt Perrin, says the team wants to re-sign Carlos Boozer and is trying actively to work with the All-Star power forward.

- The Hawks have been exploring the possibility of trading Josh Smith as part of their summertime makeover, according to sources around the league.

- Shaquille O'Neal is seriously considering a two-year deal with the Hawks. The deal would start at the mid-level exception of $5.8 million, and would fulfill Shaq's desire to play two more years on a championship contender.

- Carmelo Anthony will not be traded next season regardless of whether he accepts Denver's contract extension, according to a "high-ranking Nuggets official."

Amar'e Stoudemire Agrees to Join Knicks

It's official, the first major piece to the puzzle has been put in place, and his name is Amar'e Stoudemire.

Stoudemire's agent Happy Walters has confirmed the reports and said that the deal is "all done."

The deal is for 5 years and will pay the 27 year-old $100 Million.

Amar'e joins a franchise in much need of a face lift and automatically becomes their best player. He is a player they can build around and hope that this is what it takes to land the biggest fish in the 2010 NBA Free Agency pond, LeBron James.

It's been widely speculated that James preferred Chris Bosh as a running mate but if you look back to the trade deadline of this past NBA season, LeBron wanted the Cavs to go after Amar'e instead of Antwan Jamison.

The idea of Amar'e to New York was reported a couple days ago and has now come to fruition.

As the deal broke through the wire, talk radio flooded with callers saying that this wasn't that big of a deal and that getting Amar'e means nothing if the Knicks do not land LeBron to go with him.

TO WHICH I SAY IS BOLOGNA!

Amar'e is an enormous upgrade over David Lee, another free agent this year. Amar'e is a young power forward and he is better than Chris Bosh. Another plus is his familiarity of Mike D'Antoni and the system he runs. Even if LeBron does not come over the fact that the Knicks did not get "cut out" of the free agency frenzy is a win. They come out as a winner for the simple fact that they scored big with a new face for the franchise.

Welcome to New York Amar'e and I think I can speak for all New York Knicks fans when I say, help them land LeBron and make New York an amazing place for basketball again.

Joe Johnson Resigns with Atlanta

The Hawks and Joe Johnson have finalized a six-year contract worth around $120 million, according to beat writer Sekou Smith.

Johnson is the second major name off the board as far as big-name free agents go in the 2010 period.

It was widely speculated that Johnson would find a new home until word came out of Atlanta the price tag they were willing to pay. $120 million was far more than any other team would give Johnson, and there was no way he would leave over $25 million on the table.

What is more unfortunate is that many feel that Johnson has now thrown his chances to win a ring in the garbage. He would have been a great piece on a contender as a dynamic shooting wing, instead he will be "the man" in Atlanta.

Dirk Back In Dallas

Marc Stein of ESPN has just reported that Dirk Nowitzki and owner Mark Cuban have agreed upon a 4 year deal that allows Dirk to continue his career in Dallas.

Sources say Dirk to get a guaranteed $80 million over next four seasons. He took less than max to give the Mavs financial cushion for more moves.

Certainly a great gesture on his part as he hopes the Mavs can add more pieces to the team and get the ring that was taken away from him in 2006.

As the Free Agency period started LeBron got a package. Inside was a pair of Jordan sneakers with a very bold message. The city of Chicago and the Bulls are daring LeBron to take on the challenge of Jordan. Dumb if you ask me.

Inside the box a message read - "You're A King, but can you live up to a legend? Can you take on the greatest challenge in sports; look history in the eyes every night, And refuse to blink. The fans of Chicago have a question for you. Do you dare fill these shoes?"

As it turns out, the package James received was the final piece in a week long marketing initiative by the Chicago-based Leo Burnett Worldwide ad agency. From the Chicago Tribune's Steve Johnson:

"LeBron, the fans of Chicago have a question for you," reads the two-page ad that ran in Thursday's Akron Beacon Journal, James' hometown paper. "Can you cast a shadow this big?"

So Monday, they sent to his house the classic red, white and black Air Jordans and asked if he could fill those shoes. Tuesday it was a case featuring seven empty ring boxes, representing one more championship than Jordan won here, and the question, "Can you fill these boxes?"

Wednesday was a mock-up of a Chicago Tribune 10 years hence - still going strong, by the way - and the headline "Sweet Throne, Chicago: With Title No. 7, It's Officially King James' Court."

Was the pitch cute and clever sure, but I think it does more harm then good.

Knicks OUT of the LeBron Sweepstakes?

The Knicks have been virtually eliminated from contention for LeBron James, according to a report from Yahoo's Adrian Wojnarowski.

James' camp categorized New York's presentation as 'lacking preparedness and organization.'

Aspects of the Nets' presentation earlier on Thursday were similar in nature to New York's and were 'sharper' and 'edgier'.

Chris Paul almost traded to Portland

The Trail Blazers were close to acquiring point guard Chris Paul from the Hornets last week, a source told ESPN.com's Chad Ford.

The proposed deal had Portland sending Andre Miller, Joel Przybilla, Nicolas Batum, Jerryd Bayless and the 22nd pick to New Orleans for Paul and Emeka Okafor.

Hornets general manager Jeff Bower pulled the plug on the deal claiming that his owner wasn't ready to deal Paul.

New Orleans made a trade with Oklahoma City last week that got them under the luxury tax threshold, so they no longer have the financial pressure of dealing Paul.

My Argument for LeBron to New York or New Jersey

To me LeBron has to see it like this. Right now his best option to go play is either with the Knicks or the Nets because of the pieces already in place. All these other teams have nothing to help LeBron even if they sign a Bosh to go with him.

The Knicks already have Gallinari, Chandler, Rautins, Douglas, but you need to see how this really helps LeBron. Gallinari and Rautins are great shooters and Chandler plays the wing well...that's huge. Add a LeBron and Bosh and you have a hell of a team.

The Nets have Harris, Lopez, Favors, and once you add LeBron, and whoever + Jay-Z and the mad Russian it really makes a lot of sense. I think people are really over blowing this whole "play in Newark for 2 years thing." In 2 years he will be in Brooklyn and run the entire tri state.

Miami has 2 players under contract, Beasley and Chalmers...how the hell will that work with Wade and others...it doesn't make sense financially even if you get 3 big players and fill in the rest of the team with Vets taking the min.

Chicago will have to dump Deng or Noah and then all you have is scrubs and Rose who needs the ball to make things happen. It doesn't make sense once again.

- Mavericks coach Rick Carlisle plans to meet with free agent center Brendan Haywood on Thursday in Charlotte, N.C. Nelson called Haywood’s agent Andy Miller once the free agency period began, but has yet to extend an offer.

Haywood also received calls from Miami, Cleveland, Toronto, New York and Detroit. The Heat and Cavs are expected to meet with Haywood on Thursday.

“We are starting the process to re-signing Haywood,” Nelson said.

Dallas Getting Ready To Sign Dirk

Dallas Mavericks president Donnie Nelson will offer Dirk Nowitzki a new contract on Thursday during a meeting at Nowitzki’s home in Dallas.

“I’m going to show up on his doorstep, get on one knee and hope he says, ‘I do,’ “ Nelson said. “We’re hopeful and optimistic he will re-sign.”

The Mavericks expect to re-sign Nowitzki, who opted out of his contract this week.

“They’re going through all the hoops, but I’d be shocked if he went anywhere else,” a source close to the situation said. “He’s going to get [a new contract] done before they change the rules and structure of the collective bargaining agreement.

“I’d say the chances of him leaving are slim to none. Dirk is a loyal guy. He and Mark Cuban are as close as they come. It would be shocking if he talked to other teams.”

- Richard Jefferson doesn’t have a deal with the San Antonio Spurs and would prefer to return to the New York area to play for the Knicks or Nets, according to sources.

- Amar'e Stoudemire will visit the Knicks in NYC on Monday. He Spoke with head coach Mike D'Antoni over phone last night after meeting with the Miami Heat.

Houston Rockets General Manager Daryl Morey was 1st to get in the ear of Chris Bosh.

He met with the prized free agent right away and had this to say following the meeting,

I don't know how he thinks Houston can do that, but Bosh will certainly help. It is believed that Morey has coveted Bosh since day 1.

Free Agency Frenzy

Now that the NBA Draft is behind us...it is all about July 1st, and LeBron mania...even more than it was a week ago. There have been hundreds of reports every day with reporters claiming they know where LeBron James, Dwyane Wade, Chirs Bosh, and others will wind up. In reality no one knows a damn thing right now...it is all speculation.

I was able to be in a chat with Chad Ford where he was shedding light on a bunch of situations as we near the July 1st deadline.

- In a poll taken during the chat as to where LeBron will end up, 39% of voters said Chicago, 19% said Miami, 13% said Cleveland, 10% said New Jersey, New York received 8% and the rest of the votes went to "other."

- Chad Ford said that he believes the Miami hype for landing all 3, James, Wade and Bosh is being over blown. He doesn't see is happen because it is just too hard for it to come to fruition.

- If you think about it, there are 2 explanations. Yes it would be cool to see 3 top 20 players in the league play together on the same team. But on the other side of the coin, you are not spreading talent across the league and that could become a problem. Fans could become disinterested and the talent of other teams decreases. You might as well give the team that lands those 3 talents the right right now.

- Ford says that we should find out where the big Free Agents will be playing 48 hours after July 1st.

- Beware of the Nets. Many people are underestimating the Nets in this situation. At first everyone was talking about the Jay-Z and LeBron combo but recently the Chicago and Miami hype has severely silenced the Nets. Ford along with others believes we could be blind sided by the Nets scooping up LeBron. Oh by the way...Jay-Z and LeBron spent all weekend together in NYC.

- Out of all the lottery selections...Derrick Favors is the most likely to be used in a sign and trade to lure Bosh or LeBron.

- Chad Ford was asked if the Knicks strike out on LeBron and Bosh how would the duo of Joe Johnson and Amare Stoudemire fair? To which Ford replied...

"It Would be a disaster for Knicks fans if it happens. I think those two guys are the most likely to overpaid by a desperate team. Johnson could end up being the next Allan Houston and Amare, while a great player, has serious injury issues that could affect the length of his career. Those two, and Boozer, scare me to death on a long-term, max-type of deal."

- What will Dallas do this offseason? It is reported that after they resign Dirk, they are going full force after Joe Johnson, that is their #1 free agent.

Chad Ford says..."Cuban's been very aggressive. He's out there pursuing everyone right now. They have a very good asset in the non-guaranteed contract of Erick Dampier and I think they'd use Caron Butler's expiring contract in the right deal too."

- According to Ford, Rudy Gay will end up either in Memphis, New Jersey or with the LA Clippers, in that order.

- The Hornets are not really trying to trade CP3.

AND LETS END IT ON A HIGH NOTE. HERE IS HOW WE KNOW, THAT EVERYONE KNOWS NOTHING...

Chad Ford was asked to predict where everyone lands...this is what he said.

"I did this a few weeks ago, it's constantly changing. Just today I've had good sources persuasively tell me LeBron's going to: Miami, NJ, Chicago, back to Cleveland. All four are guys I trust. It's almost like his camp is deliberately giving out conflicting info."

Here's my informed speculation as of today:

- LeBron and Joe Johnson in Chicago
- Wade and Bosh in Miami
- Amare and Gay in NJ

- Thunder holding serious talks with Pacers to trade Eric Maynor, 18th and 21st picks for Indy's 10th pick.

- Apparently Minnesota is offering picks 16 and 23 + Al Jefferson to Detroit for the 7th pick + Tayshaun Prince + Chris Wilcox.

- Chris Paul's name is being thrown around to be traded

- Tony Parker could be traded tomorrow night. He has listed the New York Knicks as his favorite option.

24 Hours till the Draft, What's the Buzz?

We are just about what could be one of the best NBA Drafts in history. Maybe not right now but I feel in a couple years we will talk about this draft like we do 1986 and 2003.

So what's the buzz...

1. The Sacramento Kings have decided they will draft Kentucky center, DeMarcus Cousins. If everything falls into place he will be there at 5 and will be the center of the future for a rebuilding Sacramento team that is being built around Tyreke Evans.

2. The New Jersey Nets last night traded Chris Douglas Roberts to the Milwaukee Bucks in exchange for a 2012 2nd round pick. It is a move that is regarded strictly to make cap space but it is a trade I disagree with. As new coach Avery Johnson comes in, and another year is under the belt of CDR, I thought his game would improve and he could become a great contributor. Instead this opens the flood gates in New Jersey for free agents AND to draft Syracuse guard Wesley Johnson.

3. The Golden State Warriors will draft Georgetown's big man Greg Monroe with the sixth pick. This will finally give them some size in the paint and allow the rebuilding in Oakland continue. A duo of Stephen Curry and Monroe might be fun to watch.

4. Sources say the Detroit Pistons have settled on North Carolina’s lanky forward Ed Davis with the seventh choice. Word is the Pistons really covet Greg Monroe, and at one point were even considering Cole Aldrich.

5. The Dallas Mavericks don’t have a pick in the first round, but they do hold a valuable $3 million trade exception. Mavericks owner Mark Cuban told Y! Sports that Dallas is “taking bids” on it “in exchange for a pick and cash to help teams free up cap room and get under the tax.”

6. Like I mentioned yesterday in the NBA Draft: Busts post Kentucky back up center Daniel Orton, is seeing his stock falling quickly and heavily. Reports are saying he is close to falling out of the 1st round.

7. The Miami Heat have agreed in principle to trade Daequan Cook and the 18th overall pick to the Oklahoma City Thunder for the No. 32 selection in the draft.

2010 NBA Draft - The Surprising Stars

Everyone knows about John Wall, Evan Turner and DeMarcus Cousins.

It's time to shed some light on the players you might not have heard so much about, but will certainly know in the not too distance future.

#1. James Anderson - guard from Oklahoma St. - Anderson became a star this year with a breakout year and I believe cementing himself as the best 2 guard in the country. His ability to take over a game with his dribble drive and his mid range jumper will make his a force in the NBA. He will start out coming off the bench but will become a star, mark my words.

#2. Jordan Crawford - guard from Xavier - Before this college basketball year all Crawford was known for was "kinda" dunking on LeBron James at the NIKE camp. By seasons end, Crawford was a star in the NCAA tournament and dazzled fans everywhere. His explosiveness and ability to finish around the rim make him a prime candidate for a star in the NBA. He has impressed tons of scouts at the NBA Combine and his stock is rising.

#3. Quincy Pondexter - forward from Washinton - Another player that was one to watch all season as he and Isiah Thomas lead the Huskies deep into the NCAA Tournament. Pondexter has size and knows how to create a mismatch with his speed. Pondexter is projected as a top to mid 2nd rounder and could be in line for steal of the draft a la DeJuan Blair of 2009.

#4. Andy Rautins - guard from Syracuse - He probably wont be drafted but a team will pick him up. I watched him closely all year and he became one of my favorite players. His skill set is through the roof but for some reason he wont be a top 60 player in the draft. A team will take a chance on him and will be rewarded tremendously, leaving a ton of GM's bashing their heads on a table. Rautins is a great passer and can shoot better than anyone in this draft. A couple days after the draft you will hear a team pick him up, I'll bet on that.

NBA Draft - The Busts

As the 2010 NBA Draft is about 48 hours away, many names are circulating to fill out the lottery.

This year college basketball was exciting and many players left their mark, others skated by with their name, and some regressed tremendously.

There are names in this year's draft that I am almost certain will fail in the NBA, for reasons that they simply are not ready, their game does not translate to the next level or they simply are not NBA material.

I have said numerous times that I believe the biggest bust in this year's draft will be North Carolina Tar Heels forward Ed Davis.

Aside from missing time with an injured wrist, he is young, frail, and has beyond a limited offensive game. His defensive prowess is what is carrying him in this draft and I feel that NBA GM's are blinded by his elusive potential.

Daniel Orton, forward from Kentucky has been touted as going anywhere from pick 10-25. Watching him play all season makes me scratch my head as to what is desired by NBA GM's. Maybe they think he can flourish with a kick in the butt but his offense and defense left me baffled when I heard he was entering the draft. Now he is being listed as a 1st rounder, his game I can not see do well in the NBA.

West Virginia combo guard Devin EBanks is listed as a mid tier 1st round pick, but his skill set is not NBA material. His inconsistency is very apparent, but it is not just on one game off the other, his stretched lasted long periods of time where he would be bad. His length is a major plus but the rest of his abilities make him a bust in the NBA.

Cincinnati Bearcats stud one and done guard Lance Stephenson is next on my list. A player who I thought needed to go back to college for another year, will now be thrown into the NBA. His game was exposed in college, he couldn't take over a game and his shooting was sub par. He will have to rely on his athleticism but I feel it will be a long time before he becomes a good role player.

The NBA Draft is on Thursday at 7pm, which team will take the next step to a championship, and which one will write the next chapter in the Sam Bowie bust book.

Replay in Baseball, It's Time To Revise The Rules

With the recent actions of Jim Joyce blowing the perfect game of Armando Galarraga in the 9th inning with 2 outs, talks have erupted for instant replay in baseball.

Now we already have instant replay but only when it comes to homeruns to decide if they really are homers or if they are fair or foul.

But with the slew of terrible calls this year from umpires it is time to broaden the horizons for MLB and instant replay.

Bud Selig has said he will review the last play of yesterdays Tigers vs Indians game, and we might see a once in a lifetime call change.

Although Joyce has admitted that he was wrong, the fact is a historic day was ruined by an umpire, when he was blatantly wrong. Things like this need to amended but not after the game, during!

Baseball is a three hours or more type of a game, a 2 - 5 minute replay will not hurt the game, baseball purists need to take a seat.

It is all about getting the call right, the human element can still be present but it can not continue to ruin the game.

That is why I propose that instant replay be instituted for

- fair or foul balls down the line
- Base running: whether or not the runner is safe or out
- Plays at 1st base In key situations: 7th inning or later in a game where the score is within 4 runs

Balls and strikes can not be reviewed that is where this "human element" must remain.

Baseball is a game of inches where every play could effect the game. Change needs to be made to better this game, for the sake of the fans, results and the players who play this game.

Just Short of Perfection

Armando Galarraga, pitcher for the Detroit Tigers was one out away from throwing the third perfect game this year. Instead he threw a complete game shutout, striking out three and throwing only 88 pitches.

The story though was the last out of the game. Jason Donald was the 27th man to step to the plate, he was the last hope for the Indians to not be on the wrong side of history.

Donald hit a grounder in between 1st and 2nd, Miguel Cabrera ran for the ball, gloved it and flipped to Galarraga who had the ball in his mit and foot on the bag before Donald touched the base, umpire Jim Joyce called Donald SAFE.

The entire sports world was in outrage, Donald was clearly out, Joyce blew the call, ending the perfect game, no hitter and opening up a can of worms of epic proportions.

When Galarraga squeezed the final out he had a huge smile on his face, was ready to jump in the air, and turned around to see Joyce call him safe, and he just laughed.

"It was the biggest call of my career, and I kicked the S**t out of it," Joyce said, looking and sounding distraught as he paced in the umpires' locker room. "I just cost that kid a perfect game."

An issue with the play was the ball seemed to be hit closer to Carlos Guillen, the 2nd baseman and if Cabrera did not range so far to his right the play could have been easier. But regardless the out was made, the call was just wrong.

"I thought he beat the throw. I was convinced he beat the throw, until I saw the replay," said Joyce.

Bud Selig, MLB Commissioner, has said he will review the last play of the game. Who knows if this means he will over turn the call, or new instant replay rules will be instituted.

In my opinion the kid threw a perfect game, but I don't think you can over turn the call, it would put into questions the integrity of the game along with every other wrong call in baseball. The right thing to do is to make the instant replay rules more broad and allow close plays to be reviewed, not just home runs!

In my eyes Armando Galarraga threw a perfect game yesterday afternoon, too bad the record books will show a measly complete game shut out.

Roy Oswalt, The Effect He May Have

The 10 year veteran pitcher Roy Oswalt has been a top tier pitcher for the better part of the last decade.

News broke yesterday that Oswalt, who has played his entire career with the Houston Astros, has asked for a trade.

During the last two off-season's Oswalt's name has been thrown around with many teams but no deal has ever been done.

After Oswalt delivered his comments, the Washington Nationals said they have "major" interest in the three time all-star.

Then again Oswalt has said he wants to go to a team that can win right now, and the Nationals are a team "on the rise."

But lets look at this situation for a second. Oswalt is 33 years-old and still has some good years left in him. With the Astros as of late he has not been given the proper run support. The Nationals have tons of offensive support and are missing that #1 starter, because lets face it Livan Hernandez just doesn't cut it.

With Stephen Strasburg set to make his MLB debut in 2 weeks, Oswalt and Strasburg would be a formidable 1-2 punch.

If Oswalt does hold true to his request of going to a contender right away look for teams such as the New York Mets, Tampa Bay Rays, Minnesota Twins, Texas Rangers to be some of the teams fighting for his services.

Roy Oswalt who is 139-76 in his career, averaging 17 wins a year would certainly be a great piece to add for any team looking to win now.

Subway Series; Who Will Run the Town?

On Friday the New York Yankees and the New York Mets renew a seasonal rivalry with a 3-game set in Citi Field. Normally there is hype over the Subway Series, fans jawing back and forth but this year is certainly not the case.

There are many factors that have led to this mainly the play of the Mets this season. They have been dreadful and no one really expects much out of them in this series. Then again the Yankees are fielding a team of 2nd class citizens with Jorge Posada and Nick Johnson on the DL. Curtis Granderson begins a rehab assignment on Saturday, Alfredo Aceves is out and Nick Swisher is still being bothered by his bicep although he will give it a go tonight.

Maybe it is because the Yankees will have a lineup sporting including Marcus Thames, Kevin Russo, Randy Winn and Francisco Cervelli throughout the series. The buzz is simply not there.

Many are speculating that if this series goes wrong for the Mets, Jerry Manuel could be out of a job come Monday. Omar Minaya might not be too far behind.

But really who cares about this Subway Series besides New Yorkers, I'll tell you...nobody.

Every year there seems to be a little something extra coming into this series but this year is different.

The last Subway Series saw the shocking pop up drop by Luis Castillo that lost the Mets the game, and then to close out the series at Yankee Stadium the Yankees scored 14 runs, most of them on Johan Santana.

The simple facts are these, the real Subway Series happened in 2000 when the two clubs met for the World Series.

These other games are just inter-league play.

A Decision to Make

On May 17th 2008 I wrote an article about LeBron James (http://bit.ly/dDtq1f) he was coming off a monster game where he scored 32 points in the playoffs. I took the time to even then evaluate his stock and monitor where he would be going on July 1st 2010.

That time is slowly creeping up on us, and I figured I would re-visit the topic in a more modern sense.

Right off the bat I will let you all know LeBron James will not return to Cleveland. Besides all the short comings, lack of proper side-kicks and now the Delonte West "rumors" you can forget about "The Chosen One" choosing Cleveland.

If we strike Cleveland off the list the next set of favorites have to be New York, Chicago, and Miami.

Dark horses include the New Jersey, Los Angeles Clippers, and Dallas.

The name on everyone's tongue is LeBron is a Knick already, he will don his #6 in white, blue and orange on Madison Square Garden's floor next winter. The luxury of joining the Knickerbokers would be the addition of another big star such as Chris Bosh or Dwyane Wade. To go with youngsters Danilo Gallinari and Wilson Chandler.

The next team that fits is Chicago simply because of the pieces already established there. The biggest flaw with LeBron's career so far has been his lack of running-mate. Chicago has an All Star point guard in Derrick Rose, and up and coming forward in Joakim Noah and other pieces as well.

All signs are pointing to Miami re-signing D-Wade. Should that happen LeBron could have the chance of playing with his former Team USA team mate. Wouldn't that be fun to watch.

New Jersey has a lot to deal with right now with a new owner and now losing out of John Wall in the draft. But if Mikhail Prokhorov has his way and sells LeBron on being a world-wide star maybe we see LeBron play in Jersey.

Joining the Clippers won't happen but the name is out there. Why be in the same town as Kobe and always have to up-stage him or compete for fans, No thanks.

Dallas Mavericks owner Mark Cuban came out yesterday and said he want's LeBron in Dallas, who doesn't. A pairing of LeBron, Dirk Nowitzki and Caron Butler is certainly intriguing. And we all know Cuban has the money to make it happen.

July 1st marks the start of a new era in sports and in the NBA. No free agency move will happen until LeBron decides. Time to wait and see.

David Stern, Please Fix the NBA Draft Lottery

Seriously this is absurd now. Coming into Tuesday night the team with the worst record and the favorite to win the NBA Draft Lottery since 1985 had only won 4 times. That number remained at 4 when the New Jersey Nets did not win after going 12-70 over the year.

What excuse can be made for the Nets not winning the lottery? Didn't they deserve it, weren't they the worst team in the league, BY FAR!?!?

The lottery needs to be changed, the team with the worst record should be awarded the #1 draft pick or at least give them a 40-50% chance to win. Clearly 25% just is not cutting it.

The Nets were god awful this year, they obviously need help, the difference between getting help from a #1 pick and a #3 pick could be enormous. Of course time will tell but on the surface, John Wall is a better option than a Derrick Favors or a DeMarcus Cousins.

David Stern needs to be taken to task over this catastrophe, the worst team is in that state for a reason. They do not have the proper pieces to win.

That creates a major domino effect.

If a team can't win, fans will not come to see them. Then the organization loses fans and loses money which in turn loses money for the NBA. The organization loses money through the ticket gate, concession stands, merchandise and so on. Talent breeds success, the worst team needs the best talent to become formidable.

I propose the worst team in the NBA based on record at the end of the season automatically receive the #1 pick. If two teams share the same pitiful record, have a lottery between those two or have a rock-paper-scissors contest between GM's.

Change needs to be made, for the sake of the NBA and the fans that have to suffer through watching awful basketball.

Lottery Has Been Won, Now the Story Lines

The New Jersey Nets were the favorite to win the NBA draft lottery last night, shockingly they did not win.

Once it came down to the last three teams; New Jersey, Washington and Philadelphia, on Twitter (@DBerov) I predicted a huge twist in the Nets not winning the lottery or even getting the #2 pick. I said it would play out like this 1. Washington, 2. Philadelphia, 3. New Jersey, and I was spot on.

Not only is this a huge smack in the face of the New Jersey Nets but this raises tons of questions as to who will go where.

Everyone knows John Wall is the #1 player in the draft and the Wizards have come out and said they will be drafting Wall with the first pick.

Next would be Evan Turner followed by Derrick Favors, DeMarcus Cousins, Wes Johnson, Greg Monroe and so on.

With the Wizards taking Wall the big question becomes what do the 76ers do?

If they draft Evan Turner there becomes a huge jam at the 2/3 position. With Andre Iguadala, Thaddeus Young and Jrue Holiday bringing in Turner means they would have to deal one of them.

That being said the 76ers should trade the #2 pick to the Minnesota Timberwolves for the #5 and something else.

Minnesota is actively trying to get the #2 pick according to sources. Maybe we see a Ricky Rubio and the #5 for the #2 pick, something to think about certainly.

Then the Nets pick at #3 where things get dicey. They have Brook Lopez at center and will potentially pick up Chris Douglas Roberts' contract. With Terrance Williams playing the 2/3 spot and Harris at point guard the Nets need another big man next to Lopez or a 2 guard. I'd say the Nets draft big man and take Favors or Cousins, although I think it makes more sense to get Cousins because I feel he is more well rounded right now. A nice little shocker might be if we see the Nets go with a shooter and take Wes Johnson.

The rest is really a crap shoot. The Kings at #5 are talking about taking a big man because they are not sold on Jason Thompson. There are talks as well of the Kings taking Wes Johnson.

Many Warriors fans I have spoken to are heart broken over their draft spot, that team is in a world of hurt and needs a lot of help. The Pistons at #7 will likely go big man potentially Al-Farouq Aminu or Ekpe Udoh. The Clippers who are hoping Blake Griffen actually plays next year need help at the 2 spot. The Jazz will go big and probably go with Greg Monroe, Cole Aldrich or Ed Davis. The Pacers round out the top 10 and have many ways they can go. They need a point guard but there aren't any worthy of being picked that high, they could go big and help out Troy Murphy. We will see...

All I know is the NBA Draft is regarded by some as a weak draft, and I completely disagree. Following this draft class very closely over the last year, I have seen many of these kids play and I feel we have a bunch of very good players in the making.

The 2010 NBA draft will take place on June 24th.

A Fish Out of Water

Florida Marlins short stop Hanley Ramirez has proved to be one of the elite players in the Majors. Unfortunately his brain and common sense are as developed as that of an infant.

During yesterdays game against the Arizona Diamondbacks, Tony Abreu popped a ball up that fell into a Bermuda triangle in short left center field. After the ball fell Hanley proceeded to accidentally kick the ball into left field and then lolly gag to retrieve the ball. Ramirez allowed two runs to score on the play and Abreu moved to third base.

Prior to this play in the game, Ramirez was hit by a pitch on his ankle, but he remained in the game. This type of effort makes me sick, especially after the new six-year, $70 Million contract. Baseball players should never dog it.

Manager Freddi Gonzalez did the right thing and benched Ramirez after the inning was over, like any respectable manager should do.

Then the fireworks ensued.

"It's his team. He can do whatever he [expletive] wants," Ramirez, referring to his benching, told reporters Tuesday.

Oh but that is not it, Ramirez exploded and was very colorful in attacking the situation and even his teammates. When asked if he was going to apologize to his team he had this to say.

"We got a lot of people dogging it after ground balls. They don't apologize."

But that's not all, he even attacked his manager for taking him out of the game.

"That's OK. He doesn't understand that. He never played in the big leagues."

ARE YOU KIDDING ME?!?!

First of all Gonzalez played six years in the minors and knows how to play the game that is why he is a coach. Second of all, how dare Hanley Ramirez take shots at his leader, that is completely uncalled for and disciplinary actions MUST take place both on the field and monetary.

Manager Freddi Gonzalez responded to Hanley's comments.

"Hanley left the game because we felt -- he got smoked in the ankle -- but we felt whether he was hurt or not hurt or whatever it was, we felt that the effort wasn't there that we wanted. There's 24 guys out there that are busting their butts."

"There are some injuries there, but we expect an effort from 25 guys on this team and when that doesn't happen, we have got to do something," he added.

"You guys call him a marquee guy," Gonzalez said. "I got 25 guys all wearing the same uniform with all of the same Marlins insignia on the front and I think it's disappointing if anybody did it, not just one guy."

When asked whether there would be any additional punishment for Ramirez, Gonzalez responded: "You mean more embarrassment than being taken out of a major league game?"

Gonzalez did infact sit Hanley Ramirez today, but we don't know if more disciplinary action will be taken.

I commend Coach Gonzalez for "checking" Hanley's massive ego, and I expect more to be done, he should be made an example of.

And if this continues, do not be surprised if Ramirez comes out and asks for a trade.

2010 NBA Draft Lottery; Hey You Never Know

Tonight at 8pm is arguably the 2nd most important moment the NBA will face in the next boatload of years.

The first being July 1st, 2010 of course, the day teams are allowed to start talking to free agents.

The worst team in the NBA last year, the New Jersey Nets have a 25% chance of winning the lottery and can finish no worse than the 4th pick. All signs point to John Wall the star Kentucky point guard as the #1 pick this year.

You can not really blame any team for taking Wall, he is an explosive guard who can score at will, create off the dribble and take over when he wants, much like Chicago Bulls point guard and former Memphis Tigers stud Derrick Rose.

The teams in the lottery are New Jersey, Minnesota, Sacramento, Golden State, Washington, Philadelphia, Detroit, Los Angeles Clippers, Utah, Indiana, New Orleans, Memphis, Toronto and Houston.

The first two picks have been known for a very long time, Wall and Evan Turner the 6'7 versatile forward for Ohio State.

After those two things are up in the air. It will be all based on need and what fits, not necessarily the best player available.

For a long time I went back and forth on whether it makes basketball sense for the Nets to draft John Wall with Devin Harris already running point. But because he is injury prone the move will have to be done. Plus if healthy that is the fastest guard tandem in the NBA bar-none.

DeMarcus Cousins who was so dominating for Coach Cal at Kentucky has good post moves for a young player. His big frame will carry him early on but his big thick head will cause problems. He is a type of player who will see the floor and potentially get technical fouls at the rate of Rasheed Wallace.

Derrick Favors out of Georgia Tech has been tabbed as an NBA player for years. He played well for the Yellow Jackets but I still feel he is very raw.

Georgetown's Greg Monroe is the best passing big man since Vlade Divac. Although he is soft in the paint he will be able to use his 7'0 body to play around the rim. He has also developed a medium range jump shot that should help him as well.

Syracuse's Wes Johnson, Wake Forrest's Al-Farouq Aminu, North Carolina's Ed Davis are all players with big upsides. They have talent but need to be in the right system in order to utilize them properly. Johnson in my opinion would be a great fit with Utah who could use a good play maker along with Derron Williams. Ed Davis I feel will be THE BIGGEST REACH in this draft. i felt he more than anyone else in the draft could have used more time in college. He needs to develop mass on his body as he is easy to push around in the paint, especially in the NBA. Aminu will be a big work in progress for which ever team will draft him. Time will tell if his skills translate to the NBA.

Of course it will be easier to pin point who will go where later tonight, but as of right now the future of the NBA seems very bright.

From Backstop to Back-Seat

Jorge Posada has been a staple behind the plate for the New York Yankees for over 15 years.

The Bronx Bombers kick off a 2-game series on Monday against a familiar foe, the Boston Red Sox, and Posada seems to be a bigger topic than the game itself. Nagging injuries recently have forced manager Joe Girardi to limit the play of Posada to start the season. Even though he has gotten off to a hot start batting .326 with six home runs and 14 RBI's, Girardi has used him sparingly.

The catcher position is strenuous enough on a player, and the injuries exasperate the duties 10 fold. Posada recently has played some DH when not behind the plate which he publicly stated he does not like to do. It gets him out of rhythm since he likes to be "in-the-know" on every play.

Posada has an even bigger threat on top of his injuries, Francisco Cervelli. The 24-year-old spark plug of a catcher has exceeded the expectations of the New York Yankees, the fans and maybe even himself. Cervelli was called up last year from the minors after injuries to Posada and then back-up catcher Jose Molina got nicked up. Cervelli performed decently filling in when needed, but when the Yanks did not resign Molina in the off-season, Cervelli was given the official catcher #2 duty.

This year Cervelli's play has been off the charts as he has posted a .393 batting average with a .460 on-base percentage, 14 RBIs and 2 triples in 19 games this season.

Better yet, the Yankees, the defending world champions, are simply better with him playing every day. New York is 15-4 with Cervelli in the lineup, as opposed to 9-9 without him.

There are some people who think Posada would demand a trade if the Yankees make an executive decision and go with Cervelli as the main catcher, to them I say RELAX.

Jorge Posada is the type of player like Derek Jeter and Mariano Rivera where at this point in their career they would rather retire rather then don another teams uniform. I am 100% confident in that assessment.

It looks like age is catching up with Posada and maybe a meeting needs to be had to discuss the future of the man that has made a living for the Yankees behind the plate.

There is no doubt that #20 will be in monument park one day in the future, but I feel like his time on the field is coming to an abrupt end.

- According to a report from El Periodico, Ricky Rubio has decided not to come over to the United States to play for the Minnesota Timberwolves and will remain with DKV Joventut for the next two seasons.

- According to David Lee's agent Mark Bartelstein has said that there are over 12 teams interested in his client. It has been reported that the Thunder and the Grizzlies are the two favorites at this point.

- Allen Iverson has made it known through his representatives that he is interested in signing with the Memphis Grizzlies, according to multiple sources.

The Grizzlies front office is said to be internally weighing the pros and cons of possibly adding Iverson to the team's youth movement.

- The Knicks will try to use their $5.7 million mid-level exception on Grant Hill, who accepted an invitation to New York Monday for a recruiting visit, according to a source.

"Hill's a class act," Mike D'Antoni said Wednesday. "He didn't miss a game last year. I think he's one of the best free agents out there."

- Sources say the Bucks are now leaning strongly toward Brandon Jennings at No. 10. So much for that green-room drama he was facing. Over the past 48 hours the Bucks have really fallen in love with Jennings, and it's possible they would take him even if Jonny Flynn were still on the board.

- There are two theories in play that explain why the Thunder might not be taking Ricky Rubio after all.

The first is the smokescreen theory. It says that the Thunder are very tight-lipped and all of the recent leaks about Rubio are uncharacteristic of a Sam Presti team. They say that the Thunder are leaking Rubio hoping that a team like the Wolves who are hot for him would trade an asset to move up two spots.

The second theory is the Arn Tellem theory. Tellem is the agent for Russell Westbrook and some believe that he's been exerting major pressure on Presti not to take Rubio. Westrbrook wants to be a point guard and would be unhappy if he was moved to the 2.

- Report out of Houston - Aaron Brooks and Shane Battier are being offered to Memphis for the #2 pick.

- The Phoenix Suns and Golden State Warriors have discussed a possible trade.

Minnesota and Memphis haven't talked about a trade for the No. 2 pick yet, according to a source with direct knowledge of the situation.

Memphis owner Michael Heisley and GM Chris Wallace are scheduled to meet Wednesday night to discuss their options.

As for the Timberwolves, they want to get to No. 2 to draft Ricky Rubio, but are trying to figure out who would drop to them at No. 5 if they stay put.

If Memphis keeps the No. 2 pick and takes Hasheem Thabeet, Oklahoma City picks James Harden at No. 3 and Sacramento takes Stephen Curry or Jonny Flynn at No. 4 ... then Rubio would be there at No. 5.

The other Wolves scenario where they'd at least get Thabeet could occur if Memphis picked Tyreke Evans at No. 2, Oklahoma City picked Rubio at No. 3 and Sacramento picked Flynn or Curry at No. 4. In that instance, Thabeet would fall to No. 5.

As much as Minnesota wants Thabeet and Rubio, the source said it may be too difficult to pull it off.

Here are the rumors I am hearing through the grape vines. Take them with a grain of salt, as much chatter is always prevalent around this time.

-- Major talks out of Boston have Rajon Rondo on the block. The Celtics front office have come up and said this publicly. I got word yesterday there are discussions which include Rudy Gay and Mike Conley going to Boston in exchange for Rajon Rondo, and Brian Scalabrine. The logic here is the Celtics are worried with Rondo's development and after a good post season do not want his ego to get in the way of progress. Then again, why trade your best point guard who just had a monster postseason...

-- You will be hearing a lot about the New York Knicks in the next 24 hours and on. The trade talks with the Knicks are abundant starting with David Lee and Wilson Chandlers name being thrown around. Yesterday before Washington made their trade with the Timberwolves, they asked the Knicks for Chandler in exchange for the 5th pick according to rumors, the Knicks declined. New reports say that the Knicks may send cash to the Timberwolves for the 28th pick overall. The deal would give the Knicks the 8th and 28th picks in Thursday's draft. There are also talks that the Knicks will acquire former top lottery pick Darko Milicic for Quentin Richardson.

-- The Dallas Mavericks are looking to make a deal on draft day including Jerry Stackhouse. Teams like Chicago with Kirk Hinrich, Detroit with Tayshaun Prince, the Nets with Vince Carter and several other teams are looking to dumb names with long term contracts.

With the NBA draft 24 hours away the trades and rumors are aplenty. Yesterday we saw two major moves that will have serious impact on the upcoming NBA season.

The San Antonio Spurs, obviously frustrated with their quick exit of the playoffs to the hands of their rival Dallas Mavericks made a big trade to make sure that does not happen again.

The Spurs acquired Richard Jefferson from the Milwaukee Bucks in exchange for Bruce Bowen, Kurt Thomas and Fabricio Oberto. It was later determined that the Detroit Pistons were also involved as Oberto will go to Detroit and Amir Johnson will go to the Bucks.

This trade gives the Spurs a scoring wing player they have lacked for sometime now. To go along with Tim Duncan, Tony Parker and Manu Ginobili, the Spurs with this trade have once again become, at least on paper, a dominant team in the Western Conference.

The Washington Wizards unloaded their 5th overall pick in tomorrows draft as intended, along with Oleksiy Pecherov, Etan Thomas and Drius Songaila to the Minnesota Timberwolves. The wolves give up Randy Foye and Mike Miller, and now have the 5th and 6th picks in the draft.

Now the big question on everyones mind is what will the Wolves do with the back-to-back lottery picks. Many believe Stephen Curry is all but drafted already, but the second pick is still in the air. Big man Jordan Hill is being thrown around as is Tyreke Evans even Ricky Rubio if he falls.

This draft is the first in a very long time that every pick after the first is unknown by a large margin. We should expect fireworks of July 4th proportions.

Cutler has apparently begun refusing to sign autographs for fans while attending baseball games at Wrigley Field.

Kimbo Slice to Fight in TUF

Kimbo Slice, the controversial heavyweight who in 2008 headlined the most-viewed mixed martial arts card in history, will be one of 16 contestants on the forthcoming season of “The Ultimate Fighter,” the Ultimate Fighting Championship’s reality TV series.

Dana White, the UFC’s outspoken president, has repeatedly mocked Slice for his lack of fighting ability. Slice, whose real name is Kevin Ferguson, became a cult figure by competing in street fights that were posted on YouTube. Slice’s “bouts” drew tens of millions of views and led him to turn professional.

He fought for the now defunct Elite XC, garnering massive media attention but getting mocked by White and others affiliated with the UFC for a lack of ability.

White has called him a “joke,” a “bum” and “not a real fighter,” among other less than kind descriptions. He said that Slice would “get murdered if he fought in the UFC” and suggested that his lightweight champion, 155-pound B.J. Penn, would “annihilate” the 230-pound Slice.

The UFC president has repeatedly insisted he would not allow Slice to compete in the UFC unless he won his way onto the show by competing on “The Ultimate Fighter.”

Slice has called White’s bluff and will appear on Season 10 of the highly rated Spike TV series, White has confirmed. Fighters live in the same house and train together, and then fight during the show in a bid to earn a UFC contract.

His appearance, along with that of former UFC light heavyweight champions Quinton “Rampage” Jackson and Rashad Evans as coaches, should guarantee massive ratings.

“It should be interesting, given some of the things I’ve said about him,” White said.

Slice, who has a 3-1 professional record, appeared in the main event of the first MMA card shown on network television in the U.S. when he fought James Thompson on May 31, 2008, on CBS.

Slice won by third-round stoppage in a bout that attracted a record 6.5 million viewers and remains the most-viewed MMA bout in history.

But Slice hasn’t fought since Oct. 4, when he was knocked out by a jab from late replacement Seth Petruzelli, a light heavyweight, just 14 seconds into another fight broadcast on CBS. The plug was pulled on Elite XC, which reportedly lost millions of dollars, in the aftermath of the fight.

White promised “some major surprises” as he announced on a Thursday conference call that Jackson and Evans, each of whom is a former light heavyweight champion, would serve as coaches on Season 10.

He declined to say anything further but urged reporters on the call not to miss media day, which is Tuesday at the UFC Training Center in Las Vegas.

White worked hard to keep Slice’s appearance on the show a secret, hoping to have unveiled him Tuesday. Season 10, which is being called “The Ultimate Fighter: Heavyweights,” was originally slated to feature a cast of eight heavyweights and eight middleweights, but the UFC quietly informed the middleweights who tried out that it was going with an all-heavyweight show.

And unlike in recent seasons, where the competitors had to win a fight to earn their way into the house, there will be no such arrangement this time. All 16 fighters – Spike and the UFC are keeping names of the others a closely guarded secret – will automatically move into the house.

Though White goes to great lengths to insist that nothing on the show is scripted, it’s virtually guaranteed that Slice won’t fight early in the competition. Having him around and alive in the competition is going to keep ratings elevated.

If Slice is able to advance to the live Dec. 5 finale, with a chance to earn a UFC contract with a win, ratings would likely be the largest in Spike history.

Draft Day Recap

The big news was not the first pick overall by the Lions, everyone knew Matt Stafford was getting picked about 4 months ago. The real question was who was going next? and what big names would be finding new homes.

The big names people expected to move, Braylon Edwards and Anquan Boldin remained with the Cleveland Browns and Arizona Cardinals respectively.

The New York Jets made their key move and traded up to the 5 hole and got their man, USC quarterback Mark Sanchez. They also traded to be the first pick on the 3rd round and selected Shonn Greene, running back from Iowa.

The New York Giants began the process to replace Plaxico Burress by drafting 2 wide receivers in the draft, 1st round pick out of North Carolina, Hakeem Nicks and 6'6 wide out Ramses Barden from Cal-Poly. The Giants also drafted Clint Sintim, linebacker out of Virginia.

The big surprises to me were Michael Crabtree falling to the San Francisco 49ers at pick 10, the Oakland Raiders selecting Michael Mitchell in the 2nd round when he was projected as a 5th rounder, and frankly...Eric Mangini helping the Jets land Sanchez.

Now we wait and see who will pan out. Will Stafford win a game with the Lions and will he live up to his ridiculous *potential* 78 million dollar contract.

Jason Kidd Wishes He Chose San Antonio

Jason Kidd decided to remain with the Nets as a free agent in 2003, passing over what could have been a golden opportunity to join the Spurs.

"It may be a silly excuse, but I wanted to try to win a championship on my own, and we had that opportunity in New Jersey," Kidd told the Dallas Morning News. "Then, the Nets went in a whole different direction.

"San Antonio did everything right. I just didn't make the right decision at the time."

Derrick Rose Wins Rookie of the Year

Derrick Rose of the Chicago Bulls is the recipient of the Eddie Gottlieb Trophy as the 2008-09 T-Mobile NBA Rookie of the Year, the NBA announced today.

Rose received 111 first-place votes (574 points) from a panel of 120 sportswriters and broadcasters throughout the United States and Canada. Memphis' O.J. Mayo finished second with 246 points and New Jersey's Brook Lopez finished third with 127 points.

Four innings into the New York Yankees 2009 Major League Baseball season it happened, panic and hysteria broke out amongst Bronx Bomber fans across the country.

The second key offseason pick-up C.C Sabathia gave up a hit to the Baltimore Orioles the cynics were out in full force. I began receiving text messages and phone calls around 7:45pm on April 6th. Was this the right move? and how can a guy who just signed the largest contract ever for a pitcher be this dreadful in his first start.

Not to mention the amount of pressure that the boys in pinstripes are already under, missing the playoffs for the first time in 14 years, star third baseman out for the first month of the season, a new stadium about to open and all this during the biggest financial debacle in half a century.

First game jitters, thats what I posed to everyone who grabbed their inhaler and began the uprise of stock for Rogaine. First of all Sabathia was pitching in a new uniform, in a new league, and in a new atmosphere.

After pitching with the Brewers for half of last season, single handedly taking them to the playoffs-pitching of three days rest multiple times, it was Sabathia who was ready for a ring and thus chose the New York Yankees for what could be the next six years.

In his first start of the season Sabathia fell short of opening expectations, velocity on his fastball never reached over 92 mph, not to mention he was missing his spots with the pitch, bad. His slider wasn’t sliding enough and his change up could not fool the likes of Brian Roberts and Adam Jones.

And lets not forget the heating pad, as soon as YES panned to the Yankees dugout and saw Carsten Charles putting a heat bad around his mid section all hell broke loose. “What happened to his ribs? Did he break something? Is there a problem already? Is this the Carl Pavano curse?” and every other question imaginable was asked. How could the Yankees ever succeed when their gigantic in size and wallet pitcher was already pitching like a bust of years past known as the toad, Hideki Irabu.

Of course Mark Teixiera’s 0-4 night did not help the Yankees, as the new first baseman fell on his face in front of his home crowd who booed him unmercifully.

So what do you take from your star starting pitcher whose smile is as wide as the horizon and heart big enough to fill a stadium himself? FIRST GAME JITTERS.

Last season Sabathia was god-awful for the Indians at the start, posting a crooked number in the loss column for himself in April with an E.R.A nearing double digits. He finished with another team, in the playoffs and in the Cy Young award discussion.

After one game the newspapers were all over the hefty lefty and the Yankee organization. Sabathia never one to shy away from the media during the good and the bad stood by his locker deterred and visibly upset, he took responsibility for his mistakes and did not come with the cookie cutter answers. For this I commend him, rarely have we seen an athlete stand in front of the media and take the brunt of the blame on his shoulders. Maybe its because his shoulders are so broad that he can hold the load or maybe its because that the Yankees have never had a pitcher like C.C Sabathia.

Five days following the Sabathia meltdown he took the mound against the Kansas City Royals. His first inning went 1-2-3 a featured two strikes outs. A different pitcher apparently had emerged through the wreckage in Baltimore. C.C recording his first strikeout as a Yankee and now it was time to roll. He proceeded to shut the Royals down tossing 7.2 innings, giving up only six hits, striking out six, walking none, giving up no runs and most importantly securing his first win as a Yankee. This was the C.C Sabathia the Yankees back up the Brinks truck for. All of a sudden Sabathia is a hero and the papers love him.

Like I said first game jitters, it takes some time to get accustomed to your surroundings. For Sabathia it took one game, he then proved to the baseball world that he is indeed on top of his game. His next hill to climb? Open up the new $1.6 billion home of the team that signed him on April 16th.

Sorry people, things have been going on lately.

Anyway...to my shock last week, Terrell Owens signed with the Buffalo Bills. Really? All the places I thought my favorite player would go...THE BILLS!? In a way it makes no sense to me, its a place that doesn't fit the Terrell Owens mantra.

The Cowboys were that big ego, superstar aura, the Bills seem to fall short.

Then you have to think why he chose the Bills, was it the most money for a one year contract? Or was it the only team that came forward, because it damn sure cant be the team he thought he was going to win with. Today Owens made a request for his #81 and he got it.

He will be paired with Trent Edwards and Lee Evans, he is certainly the biggest name in Buffalo since Jim Kelly. How will the T.O saga go in Buffalo? In my opinion he will play well, he might even make the Bills relevant and a bubble playoff team. I see him getting close to 1000 yards about 8-10 touchdowns, and then moving on to another team next year.

On this date 46 years ago, Willie Mays signed a new contract for $100,000, becoming the highest paid player in baseball.

In the day and age that we live in today, with baseball salaries being through the roof, we have to reflect on where we have come from. In 1963 when Mays received that contract from the San Francisco Giants, $100,000 was like $1,000,000 today.

Have the salaries gotten too high? Are these players over paid?
Major League Baseball has seen salaries rise astronomically since the mid 90’s. Kevin Brown signed the biggest contract in MLB history in 1998, when the Los Angeles Dodgers gave him a modest seven year deal worth $105 million. Since then $100+ million contracts have been quite common.

Most notably Alex Rodriguez received a $252 million deal from the Texas Rangers in 2001, he then received a new deal with the New York Yankees in 2008 where he was awarded a 10 year $275 million contract which with incentives could go up to $305 million.

New York Yankees short stop, Derek Jeter was given a 10 year $189 million contract in 2001. In 2006 Barry Zito was given the largest contract for a pitcher by the San Francisco Giants. A whopping seven year $126 million deal, which thus far has been the largest over-payment for a player since the Dodgers gave relief pitcher Darren Dreifort a five year $55 million contract in 2001. In the same year the Colorado Rockies gave Mike Hampton a stellar eight year $121 million contract, which the Rockies paid the Braves to take him off their hands after just two years.

2007-2008 winter meetings brought the next enormous deal for a pitcher in baseball, when the New York Mets inked up a $137.5 million contract for six years.

Then in the 2008-2009 offseason the New York Yankees struck it rich when they gave C.C Sabathia the newest largest contract for a pitcher in baseball history. $161 million deal over seven years, and then proceeded to give first baseman Mark Teixeira a hefty eight year $180 million contract.

But now comes the economic stand point from the whole situation and big question is thrown out there, are these players over paid. Well it all depends on what that player will end up making for the team he plays for. If Alex Rodriguez makes the Yankees $30 million in a season, he technically is under paid because he makes $28 million a season. That is how baseball contracts are measured, merchandise sales, luxury box and season ticket sales and other endorsements all play into the idea of the cost for a player. As long as you see thousands of number 13 jerseys at Yankee Stadium and all across the world at a cool $154.99 a piece, the Yankees and other teams with their player contracts will be doing just fine.

It just goes to show you where these contracts have gone. Just think, four decades ago a games pay for Alex Rodriguez was the largest contract in the game, now there are players in baseball making more money then some countries.

A Legacy Forever Ruined

Cheater, steroid user, fake, no respect, LIAR.

These words will forever be linked to the name Alex Rodriguez, from February 7th 2009 till infinity.

Once praised as the air apparent to be the greatest of all time, is now a mere asterisk in the minds of millions of baseball fans. When Selena Roberts out-ed the 12 time all-star and three time most valuable player, the name Alex Rodriguez would never be the same again.

In America there are certain things that tick people off, rapist, murderer, and it seems like cheater is in the same category. Not to put Alex Rodriguez in the same vein as a murderer but in the minds of baseball purists that is just where his name falls. He no longer will be looked at as the clean player to finally absolve baseball of the steroid era, nor would he now be the “REAL” homerun king. Instead Barry Bonds is still sullied and Hank Aaron still holds the long ball crown, and if A-ROD gets there which barring injury he more than likely will, the number will mean nothing in the eyes of the fans.

In my previous article I mentioned what players said and how I believe that there must have been an agenda behind just Rodriguez’s name being leaked, and there was, Roberts is releasing a book chronicling A-ROD’s celebrity status and his downfall. Now it seems like this list will not be released and Rodriguez will be the only man named off this infamous list. He is the only one scorn by the wrath of four sources that breached the trust and faith of every single player in Major League baseball today.

Let’s look at the situation this way. The four sources that leaked the information to Roberts knowingly broke the law. They threw away the notion of confidentiality, which in the case of these tests and what the players were being tested for would have never complied with should they have known that one day names would be mentioned and careers would be tarnished. And that is exactly what happened here. Rodriguez’s career has been tarnished like a metal bike left out in a monsoon.

On Tuesday February 17th 2009, Alex Rodriguez is scheduled to appear in Tampa for Yankees spring training where he will face the media publicly for the first time since his interview with ESPN’s Peter Gammons on the 9th of February. He, just like Andy Pettitte last year and Jason Giambi the year prior to Pettitte will face the media and try to answer the steroid filled questions thrown at him and try to clear the air. The press conference is another step in Alex Rodriguez’s road to recovery, much like a person in AA sessions, this is just another step.

It is here where the world expects Rodriguez to be truthful once again and try to put back together the reputation and legacy that right now is in shambles like a disco ball that fell to the dance floor. With him will be sitting Mariano Rivera, Andy Pettitte, Derek Jeter and Jorge Posada according to Yankee sources who have said they want to be there to support their team mate, just like they did for Andy Pettitte last spring training.

Veteran Yankees closer Mariano Rivera has come out and said “To me, he doesn’t have to say anything, he has my support regardless.”

Longtime catcher Jorge Posada made his feelings known to the media as well, “Alex is my teammate and Alex is going to be my friend forever. I’m going to support him any way I can.”

Familiar with the situation surrounding Rodriguez, Pettitte has supported his fellow colleague. “Alex is my teammate; he’s like family to me,” Pettitte said. “I’m going to try to help him and pull for him in any way possible. Anything negative toward him isn’t going to come from me. I want to try to encourage him and pick him up at this time, not kick him down.”

On the bright side for A-ROD this is a good thing, seeing the marquee names supporting him like this, yet there is one name that hasn’t come out and said something to help matters, the one that matters most in New York, number two, Derek Jeter. Jeter publicly said he would not speak on the matter until spring training, so tomorrow everyone is expecting the captain to speak, and for Alex’s sake, he better support him 100 percent.

But I must go back to the issue at hand and that is the name, Alex Rodriguez. There will be no excuses from fans and A-ROD alike; he has admitted to doing the steroids to live up to his hefty contract given to him by the Texas Rangers, but what he did was wrong. Fans will boo him unmercifully at home and especially on the road. Signs on asterisks and needles and catch phrases with “A-ROID” will be staples in every game Rodriguez plays in. And there is nothing he can do about it. He brought this upon himself and he will have to live with the fact that his legacy, reputation and name will forever be etched into the minds of fans as a cheater.

A-ROD GATE

Like Richard Nixon in the early 70’s, Alex Rodriguez has orchestrated a scandal to rock the very core of the baseball world.

On February 7th 2009 Sports Illustrated reported that Alex Rodriguez tested positive for 2 types of steroids in 2003, Testosterone and Primobolin. The story was broken by Selena Roberts who confirmed the positive tests through four sources.
Now here is where the controversy starts to bubble.

Roberts has been doing the media circuit and has publicly stated that she knows the person who leaked this information is committing a crime. This source had access to PRIVATE AND CONFIDENTIAL information that must have had ulterior motives to release these names. Out of the total 104 names on this “tested positive for steroids list” only Alex Rodriguez was out-ed.

Rodriguez sat down with Peter Gammons of ESPN on February 9th 2009 where he admitted to using banned substances in an interview that lasted over 30 minutes. A-ROD clearly emotional and distraught through out the interview did answer all the questions and in my opinion took the proper first step to diffuse this C-4 type of situation.
Much like Nixon and his “Dirty Tricks” A-ROD apparently was using his own “magic” from 2001 to 2003 as he told Gammons in the sit down. Feeling the need to live up to his massive 10 year – 252 million dollar contract, with exorbitant amount of pressure building upon his shoulders, Rodriguez decided to take steroids.

Much like the Watergate scandal there was a leak of information, which too was classified. But I once again bring up the fact that the agenda this source had when only releasing Rodriguez’s name, is absolutely preposterous. Either leak each and every of the 104 names or none at all. How could anyone be content with just one name, however much weight that name holds. Equality and fairness, this era no doubt will be labeled the “steroid era” and a tainted period in baseball, but withholding names and putting a blanket over the entire league as potential users will be a crime in and of itself.

Now retired Sean Casey has come out and said he felt betrayed by the Players Association for the leakage of Alex Rodriguez’s name from “the list.” Boston Red Sox pitcher Curt Schilling has come out and said in his blog that he wanted every name out there if A-ROD’s name was to be released. And Houston Astros first baseman Lance Berkman has said that he wants the names of everyone on “the list” exposed because those who have never touched any type of human growth hormone or steroid would like to clear their name.

Everyone wanted Alex Rodriguez to just come out and admit what he did and dish out all the “good stuff.” He went further than the actual Sports Illustrated report by admitting to doing the roids for not just one year, but three. He gave us the why, the where, the how, the when just not the who. You must give him credit for taking the whole steroid fiasco further than anyone else who was put in his situation.

Barry Bonds has denied his steroid use all though there are positive tests, lied to a grand jury and is now fighting for his freedom in a court room.

Roger Clemens has taken the “deny till I die” policy and is tossing and turning at night wondering if the three needles Brian McNamee had stuffed in his basement in a old Coke can will be tossed as evidence. He too is facing jail time for his steroid use.

Rafael Palmero wagged his finger then three days later was tested positive for steroids. Mark McGwire showed the world his Androstendione in his locker, a steroid precursor, as well as Jose Canseco coming out and saying he personally injected Big Mac with roids.

The other 103 names on “the scarlet letter forever on your forehead” list for now should consider themselves lucky. I’m sure there are big names on that list, maybe not as big of fish like A-ROD but I’m positive a shocking name or two will be on there.

This dark cloud in baseball history that is upon us will forever stain the culture of the sport, and encyclopedias will chronicle this cycle of madness forever. Alex Rodriguez will have to do a lot to get back in good graces with the fans of baseball, but it all starts now.

Unlike President Nixon, A-ROD will not pick up and leave office, he will continue to be the greatest baseball player in the game today, and prolong his journey to becoming legendary.

Bears Looking at Matt Casell?

A lot of people believe that the Patriots will trade Matt Cassel, and the Bears have admitted that solving their quarterback situation is tops on their offseason list.

"At some point, the Bears will have to address their quarterback situation. There were times last season when Kyle Orton appeared to have a good handle on things, but after sustaining an ankle injury, he was not the same productive player," Mike Lombardi of the National Football Post wrote.

"The Bears need a marquee player on offense, someone they can build around and make all the other pieces fit. They need someone they do not have to manage but who can run a complete offense. The need is there, but I doubt the Bears will be serious players. They have the 18th pick in the first round, but they hate to part with picks.

Giants Preparing 3 Year Offer for Manny

Curt Schilling and Derek Jeter Respond To A-ROD Situation

Schilling has come out and said that all the names, not just Alex Rodriguez should be released off the 104 name list of steroid users.

"I'd be all for the 104 positives being named, and the game moving on if that is at all possible," former Boston ace Curt Schilling wrote on his blog Sunday, referring to the number of players who were tested but assured confidentiality.
"In my opinion, if you don't do that, then the other 600-700 players are going to be guilty by association, forever," he wrote. "It appears that not only was it 104, but three of the greatest of our, or any, generation appear to be on top of this list."

Dodger Offer Manny 1 Year Deal

A two-year, $45 million offer three months ago didn't get it done. So on Monday, the Los Angeles Dodgers made a new offer to Manny Ramirez -- for one year and $25 million, according to a major league source.

Dodgers GM Ned Colletti confirmed to ESPN.com that he met with Ramirez's agent, Scott Boras, on Monday and presented the new offer in person.

Colletti declined to confirm any details of the offer. But the offer was confirmed by another source with knowledge of the discussions. It's believed that Ramirez and Boras were given a 48-hour deadline to accept the offer.

Boras and the Dodgers have haggled since November over Ramirez's worth, but they have been hung up mostly by the four to six years Boras has been looking for. So clearly, the Dodgers decided it was time to change tactics.

By offering Ramirez $25 million, they apparently believe they're sending a clear message that they want him back -- since that would make him the second-highest paid player in baseball this year, behind only Alex Rodriguez. It would also give Ramirez a chance to go back into the free-agent market next winter, when, presumably, the economy will have improved.

Matt Cassel Peed On

New England quarterback Matt Cassel was in line for the bathroom at ESPN's Super Bowl party on Friday night and reportedly got peed on.

A drunken man tried to cut Cassel in line, but he wasn't ready to concede his spot. "Matt told him to wait his turn and headed into the urinals," a source told the New York Daily News.

Soon after, the man barged in and peed directly on Cassel's leg.

After security tossed out the man, Cassel headed back out into the crowd.

Rising star Matt Cassel has been the hot topic ever since Tom Brady went down after week 1.

Cassel lead the New England Patriots to a winning record but falling just short of the playoffs due to tie breakers. He now will most likely need to find a new home, because Tom Brady is scheduled to make a full recovery and be ready for the start of next season.

Scott Pioli new general manager of the Kansas City Chiefs, who was with the Patriots last season, seems that Cassel can fill the QB void that has plagued the Chiefs for decades.

Tyler Thigpen and Quinn Gray are just not cutting it for me.

The biggest free agent left on the market is ready to pull out his dread locks if he does not find a suitor soon.

As of last week super agent Scott Boras came out and publicly stated that there are "multiple suitors" for his malcontent outfielder Manny Ramirez. Ramirez, Boras and the rest of the baseball universe is waiting patiently to see which pond the big fish lands in.

On January 29th, Albert Pujols admitted to speaking with Manny Ramirez a lot,
"I speak with Manny every three days and he tells me, 'Man, no one wants to sign me." When you have the backing of an Albert Pujols, that has to be a positive and nothing short of a formula for success. "I'm not an agent or general manager, but I can't understand how Manny has not signed" said Pujols.

Since "Phat Albert" has endorsed Manny Ramirez to wear red and white, maybe Ramirez finds it in his heart to not want 25+ million dollars and give St. Louis a break.

"Maybe St. Louis doesn't have the money to sign him, but he could give them a discount because St. Louis is a great city that supports its players," said Pujols.

Lets look at this from another stand point, Albert Pujols is the only thing relevant when associating with the Cardinals, bringing in Manny will bolster the lineup and make them a prime team to watch. A 1-2 punch of Manny and Albert in my opinion is 100 times more scarier and potent then Manny and David Ortiz. Pujols is a better overall hitter than David Ortiz, and just as clutch. Pujols has the ability to not just hit home runs but he has the capability to spread the ball around the field and launch the ball over the fence as well. With a 3-4 of Manny and Pujols, they will protect each other thus not allowing pitchers to shy away from one to get to the other. Each strike fear into the pitcher 66.6 feet away from him.

Although this is just a thought circulating through the baseball wire it is something to ponder, and should this magically happen, the Cardinals could have an offense to be reckoned with. The middle of their line up would look as such, Manny Ramirez, Albert Pujols, Ryan Ludwick and Rick Ankiel. Not too shabby, especially in the National League.

Then again, Pujols is not the only one trying to court Manny to sign with his team. A mob of 40 or so Mets fans stood outside the teams network studio pleading for the Wilpon's and Omar Minaya to bring Manny to Queens.

"He's got the skill set we need, and the attitude and swagger to play in New York," said Justin Killian, a 36-year-old lawyer who helped organize the rally on nyfuturestars.com. "He'll be like the rain man, just go up and hit."

Personally I would like to see Manny Ramirez in Queens, playing for the Mets and helping that team not choke away a third season. But also I would like to see them win and maybe face the Yankees in the World Series. Then again I wouldn't mind watching the combo of Pujols and Ramirez on FOX every Sunday either. What will happen, lets wait and see.

Joe Torre Harsh Word on Yankees in New Book

Joe Torre didn't need "incentives" to lead the New York Yankees, so he left.
Torre's incentives to expose the salacious side of his former team are another story.
According to two newspaper reports, Torre blasts the team he managed to four World Series titles in a book set to be released Feb. 3.
Teammates frequently called Alex Rodriguez "A-Fraud," and the third baseman was obsessed over his rivalry with shortstop Derek Jeter, "The Yankee Years" reveals, according to the New York Daily News and New York Post.
In the book written by Sports Illustrated's Tom Verducci and published by Doubleday, Torre also says Yankees general manager Brian Cashman "betrayed him on several fronts," the Daily News reports.
It's in stark contrast to Torre's former stance, in which he said Cashman supported him throughout 2007 negotiations, which ultimately failed.
And it goes beyond the widely reported 2007 meeting in which Cashman met with the Steinbrenners to discuss Torre's future with the team, a talk in which the GM was said to have remained neutral as the drawbacks to extending Torre's tenure were discussed.
In a later confrontation with Torre, Cashman confirmed he was quiet when the subject of offering Torre his desired two-year deal instead of one came up, the book says.
Cashman wouldn't comment on the book when contacted Sunday by ESPN The Magazine's Buster Olney.
Cashman, who said he's in regular contact with Torre, told Olney he didn't know the context of the portrayal and didn't know if the reported comments were from Torre or Verducci.
"I think Brian Cashman wanted me back," Torre said in Oct. 2007, as he announced he wouldn't return for the Yankees. "We have a close relationship. We felt we worked hard at trying to get this thing straightened out."
After completing a three-year, $19.2 million contract with the Yankees, Torre signed a three-year, $13 million contract to manage the Los Angeles Dodgers in Nov. 2007, the same month the book deal with Verducci was announced.
His Dodgers deal came two weeks after having walked away from the Yankees when they offered a one-year contract worth $5 million plus $3 million in performance incentives he termed "an insult.''
"I don't think incentives are necessary," he said then. "I've been here a long time and I've never needed to be motivated. Plus, in my [previous] contract, I get a million-dollar bonus if we do win the World Series, so that's always been there."
One source familiar with the book told ESPN.com's Jerry Crasnick that it's "inaccurate'' to suggest that Torre used it as a forum to get even with the Yankees or settle old scores.
The source said some of the controversial angles being reported in the New York tabloids have been taken out of context or "overblown.''
"Joe is very honest in the book,'' the source said, "but he doesn't make any personal attacks. In terms of him name-calling, that's not his style.''
The book is not a first-person tell-all, but rather, a third-person narrative by Verducci, who interviewed dozens of players and team personnel while researching for the book, the source said.
Torre is currently in Hawaii on vacation. According to the Daily News, he is scheduled for the "Late Show With David Letterman" on Feb. 3, as well as a book signing that day at the Yogi Berra Museum in New Jersey.
