The New Gap The Giants Have To Fill

Always good for a quote and something interesting to say, the man known best for his not so stellar dental plan is hanging it up. Whether it's skipping mini camp, or calling out reporters while eating in his locker, the New York Giants are going to miss # 92.

Michael Strahan has decided to call it a career, after playing 15 years in the NFL and finally capturing the Super Bowl Victory that eluded him for 14 years, it has now come full circle for him. Strahan rides into the sunset much like John Elway, on top, the way Strahan always wanted it to be. "If we won in 2000, i probably wouldn't be here" said Strahan referring to the Super Bowl XXXIV where the Giants fell to the Ravens. "The hunger would not be the same, the goal was always to win and if we won back then, I would not have been the same player."

Strahan has played his entire career with Big Blue, and has cemented his legacy as one of the best defensive ends in NFL history. Drafted in the 2nd round with the 40th pick of the 1993 draft, it is hard to argue that Strahan is not a first ballot Hall-Of- Famer. The flexing sack machine leaves the game 5th on the all time NFL sacks list, with 141.5 sacks, and first on the New York Giants sack list. Strahan recorded 794 career tackles, 4 interceptions, 21 forced fumbles and 2 touchdowns.

The gap toothed wonder holds the NFL record for sacks in a season with 22.5 as he accomplished the feat in 2001 by sacking Brett Favre. How ironic, the both of them retire the same year and both will be inducted into Canton together as well. Strahan who has been in countless commercials, published books and has been all over your television set, it is safe to say the career for Michael Strahan has been quite fulfilling.

But with one man leaving that leaves another..gaping hole for the New York Giants, who will play the other DE position, opposite Osi Umenyiora. How about disgruntled dancing sensation Jason Taylor. Taylor and the Dolphins are not seeing eye to eye and it could very well result in a trade.

Think about this...the Giants have their own unhappy camper, Jeremy Shockey. Why not trade Shockey to the Phins, where he played college ball at THE U, and in return get one of the best NFL pass rushers. This would formulate a defensive line of Umenyiora, Robbins, Tuck, Taylor. I'll put that line against any other in the league, and against any quarterback that gets under center.

P.S - Hey Giants, please pay Plaxico Burress.

Plax will be paid, that's not even a question.
