Willie Gets His Walking Papers

So you fly across the country, actually win a game against a decent team, the Angels, and then 3 hours after the game your told to pack your things.

Thats the case for now former New York Mets manager Willie Randolph and 2 bench coaches, pitching coach Rick Peterson and first base coach Tom Nieto. A change was imminent and needed as the Mets were struggling all year. Carlos Delgado has been under performing, Aaron Heilman has been dredful, and Billy Wagner has blown too many saves.

Jose Reyes has taken too long to get going and has not been that spark on the bases that he needs to be, and the best player for the Mets has been Ryan Church, who has been a bit injury prone.

Now the Mets need to fill the spot and the likely candidate as of this moment and the sheek pick is former Met, Wally Backman. Backman has had a problem with alcohol and thus the reason he is not a manager already. Backman has said that he is clean and is ready to be a winner. In an interview with Max Kellerman on 1050 ESPN Radio Backman said "I'm a winner, if you want to win, I know how to win. "

Since the epic collapse that the Mets endured last September they are 40-47, with a team batting average of .267 and their bullpen has blow 13 saves.

A change is coming, and as the Philadelphia Phillies are sitting comfortably atop the NL East, 6.5 games ahead of the Mets, they need to find someone or something that will light a fire under them.

So long Willie.
