Tiger Wins

It took 91 holes to crown a winner instead of the usual 72, and that man was Tiger Woods, shocking...I know.

Rocco Mediate did give him one hell of a run for his money, as Mediate held the lead or was tied for the back 9 until the final hole. After Tiger tied it on 18 again like he did the previous day by sinking the birdie attempt, Rocco had a chance to win it but was denied.

They then took it to sudden death, and off to the 7th hole they went. The par 5 hole was the difference between one man's triumph and the other mans crushing defeat. Tiger was on the green in 2 shots, as Rocco melted away from the pressure.

He put his tee shot in the bunker then knocked his approach off a cart path and against the bleachers, chipped some 18 feet past the hole and missed the par putt. While Tiger saved par and in pure jubilation hugged caddy Steve Williams.

Mediate fell just short of becoming the oldest player to ever win the U.S Open, but as he was happy go-lucky all day, waving to the crowd and just being a normal guy on the green, this is one he wishes he could have had. "Obviously, I would have loved to win," he said. "I don't know what else to say. They wanted a show, they got one."

Another Major, another win by Woods, it wont be long before Tiger reaches Jack Nicklaus, but for now he is giving everyone even more reason to fear him.

"This is probably the greatest tournament I've ever had," Woods said.

This was a match for the ages, a true David versus Goliath as the so called joe schmo in Rocco Mediate and the golf titan that is Tiger Woods.

"I never quit. I never quit," Mediate said. "I've been beaten down a few times and came back, and I got what I wanted. I got a chance to beat the best player in the world. And I came up just a touch short."

He might have come up short, but he gave one hell of a performance, it was simply amazing to watch them both. One with a bad knee the other with a bad back. All that equals to is some really entertaining and dramatic golf.
