Talk About A Half Time Message

San Francisco head coach Mike Singletary pulled down his pants during halftime of the team's loss to Seattle in Week Eight.

"He was just dramatizing how embarrassing it was," 49ers director of public relations Aaron Salkin said.

Singletary was reportedly wearing underwear.

"I used my pants to illustrate that we were getting our tails whipped on Sunday and how humiliating that should feel for all of us," Singletary said in a statement. "I needed to do something to dramatize my point; there were other ways I could have done it but I think this got the message across. I am excited about having the team back at practice on Monday so we can get back to work."

The Great Week 8: Titans And Giants Sitting Pretty

The undefeated Tennessee Titans had their first real test of the year and prevailed like nobodies business. They took care of Peyton Manning and the Colts on Monday Night Football 31-21 to move to 7-0 on the season, the lone unbeaten team in the NFL. Their rushing duo of Chris Johnson and Lendale ("fat man" as I like to call him) White who has the most touchdowns in the league with 10 are setting the pace and literally running teams into submission. The Titans schedule is rather easy and it is not inconceivable that we see another Patriot like season, I hope I didn't just jynx it. With the defense and running game they have it does not matter who is under center or how old he is. This team is clicking on all cylinders and right now no one can stop them.

The kings of the NFC had their own battle to take on when they traveled to Pittsburgh to take on the Steelers. The Giants 2nd half defense stepped up and man handled Pittsburgh. The Giants picked off Ben Roethlisberger four times as well as sacking him five times, three by Mathias Kiwanuka. The big story coming into this game was Plaxico Burress and what type of disciplinary actions would be taken with him. Tom Coughlin sat Burress for about a quarter and a half and when he did play it seemed like Eli was implementing his own form of punishment only throwing to him three times for 15 yards. The Giants beat the Steelers by holding them to negative four yards through 10 minutes in the fourth quarter as well as a safety and then a touchdown pass to Kevin Boss. Giants improve to 6-1 beating the Steelers 21-14.

The disarray in Dallas continues as the Cowboys eeked out a victory against the Tampa Bay Bucs. Tony Romo was officially injured and would not come back, he has said that he will not be back for at least 3-4 weeks. That being said Brad Johnson took the reigns and threw for a team record low of 122 yards in a victory. Roy E Williams caught his first touchdown as a Cowboy. Following the game the Cowboys learned star tight end Jason Witten has 2 fractured ribs. Cowboys win 13-9.

Then 2nd best team in the NFC East, the Washington Redskins took care of the winless Lions 25-17. The Lions are in a QB crisis mode as they have been starting Dan Orlovsky. They are in contract talks with Daunte Culpepper.

The upset of the week was the Dolphins taking care of the Bills, as the Dolphins have become the official killers of the league. They have taken care of the Patriots, Chargers, and now the Bills as Chad Pennington and Ted Ginn Jr. picked apart the Bills. Ginn had 7 receptions for 175 yards. Pennington tossed the pigskin around for over 300 yards and a score.

The battle over seas started off slow but turned into a shootout. Drew Brees has cemented himself into the top QB of the league and once again threw for over 300 yards. He is on pace to break Dan Marino's single season passing record. The Chargers and Ladanian Tomlinson gave the Saints a fight as LT looked like his former self rushing for over 100 yards and catching another six passes for 65 yards and a touchdown but it was still not enough to beat the Saints in London.

The Jets and Brett Favre had to rally late to beat the Chiefs and former head coach Herm Edwards. If it was not for Laverneus Coles' one handed comeback touchdown grab which was a bad pass by Brett Favre the Jets would have lost. Favre is not once again in the top slot in a familiar spot, interceptions. He came into the week with nine, behind 49ers J.T O'Sullivan, he threw three picks on Sunday. Jets survive the Favre meltdown 28-24.

The Eagles of Philadelphia were in an interesting game against the Atlanta Falcons who have become one of the more competitive teams in the NFL. Roddy White have had a fantastic day going for over 100 yards and two touchdowns but it was not enough. Matt Ryan threw two crucial interceptions and the Eagles held on to 27-14 win.

The Cardinals and Panthers had an interesting showdown as the gun slinger of the west as I like to call him Kurt Warner had another assault through the skies throwing for over 380 yards and 2 scores. Anquan Boldin in his return had both of the touchdowns thrown by Warner. The Panthers and Jake Delhomme kept on rolling as his favorite target Steve Smith had another big day catching five passes for 117 yards and a touchdown. Panthers win 27-23.

The only interesting thing about the Ravens thrashing of the Oakland was that Troy Smith lined up at quarterback and threw a 43-yard pass to Joe Flacco, THE OTHER QUARTERBACK! Nick job Oakland, great defense!

The NFL this year has been very rollercoaster-y. Up and down and left to right, team like the Dolphins winning games and team like the Lions and Bengals willing to sell their souls for a win at this rate. The NFC East is still the beast of the east and is by far the toughest division. The AFC South is officially wrapped up by the Titans and their only competitor in the AFC right now is the Steelers.

Week 7 Players Of The Week:

- Drew Brees: 339 yards, 3 touchdown
- Kurt Warner: 381 yards, 2 touchdowns
- Roddy White: 8 receptions, 113 yards
- Ladanian Tomlinson: 170 total yards, 1 touchdown. 65 receiving, 105 rushing

Jason Terry: Dont Sleep On The Mavericks

Ok I will just come out and say it, I am a Dallas Mavericks fan. And contrary to others belief the Dallas Mavericks have been rather disappointing and have cause much heart ache in my life. From the 2006 finals which they should have won but D-Wade got all the phantom calls in the world, and then the first round exits in 07 against the Warriors and 08 against the Hornets.

This team is still led by former MVP Dirk Nowitzki along with Jason Kidd, and a rowdy off seasoned Josh Howard.Jason Terry is another veteran leader who likes coming off the bench and young studs like Brandon Bass will play key rolls this year under new coach Rick Carlisle.

Many critiques are pushing the Mavs to the bottom of the Western Conference based on previous season performances. It's unfortunate because now the Mavs will have to work to gain that respect back from when they were a 60 win team. Are the Mavs officially under the radar?

Terry is warning people not to sleep on the team this season.

"I can see that they’re doubting us and it’s been a long time since we’ve had that doubt about this team and this organization," said Terry.

"So I think guys are going to be ready and teams are going to come in kind of like, 'Oh yeah, we ran through the Mavericks last year, they’re the same old team,' but it’s going to be a big shock to them."

Off On The Wrong Foot

Greg Oden has had an NBA debut to forget, spraining his foot during the first half and not returning to the game.

According to Cheryl Miller on TNT, X-Rays came back negative, but Oden will undergo an MRI on Wednesday.

Oden was scoreless on 0-for-4 shooting in 13 minutes, but he did have five rebounds.

Poor Choice Of Words

Terrell Suggs' suggestion that the Baltimore Ravens had a "bounty" on Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver Hines Ward and running back Rashard Mendenhall has gotten the attention of the NFL.

During the "2 Live Stews" syndicated radio show on Oct. 17, when he was asked, "Did you all put a bounty out on that young man [Mendenhall]," Suggs replied, "Definitely. The bounty was out on him and the bounty was out on [Ward] -- we just didn't get him between the whistles."

That 'bounty' notion is completely against the rules. To the extent that someone is engaged in that activity, we will look into it and address it. Yes, we've seen the comments and we're trying to determine the completeness of the circumstances.
-- Ray Anderson, NFL executive vice president of football operations lso during the interview, Suggs called Ward "a dirty player" and "a cheap-shot artist. ... We got something in store for him."

Ray Anderson, the NFL's executive vice president of football operations, said the league is looking into the comments.

"That 'bounty' notion is completely against the rules," Anderson told ESPN.com. "To the extent that someone is engaged in that activity, we will look into it and address it. Yes, we've seen the comments and we're trying to determine the completeness of the circumstances."

Mendenhall sustained a season-ending shoulder injury during the game on a hit by Ravens linebacker Ray Lewis.

Willie Might Be Coaching Again Next Season

Former Mets' manager Willie Randolph reportedly interviewed with the Brewers about their vacant job on Tuesday.

Milwaukee is not revealing the candidates they are considering, but a source familiar with the situation said Randolph had an interview scheduled.

The Brewers last week said that Randolph was a favorite of theirs to fill Dave Svuem's position who the Brew Crew did not excersize their option to retain him.

So if the Brewers do not hire Randolph, expect his to be with the New York Yankees again, otherwise expect Randolph to destroy the Mets every time he gets the chance to.

Talk About News No One Cares About...

ESPN actually reported that Boston Red Sox manager, Terry Francona will have back surgury in the offseason. The manager. WHO CARES ABOUT WHAT TERRY FRANCONA IS DOING IN THE OFFSEASON!!!! WHAT DOES THAT HAVE TO DO WITH THE RED SOX AND THEIR PROJECTION FOR THE 2009 SEASON.

This is ridiculous.

"Red Sox Manager Terry Francona will have offseason back surgery to fix a problem that has been bothering him all season.

Francona hasn't had complete feeling in his arms since May."

Sure I sympathize for the guy but common ESPN, there is more worthy news.

Forget the Cowboys, How About Them Rays!

From worst to first, from coach to first class, from the bottom to the top, the Rays are off to their first ever World Series as they have beaten the Boston Red Sox in game seven of the ALCS.

This was the team that no one believed in, everyone was counting down the days till the team collapsed. "They are hot now, but this is just a fluke and when it comes down to it they will fall apart." Well the team that has ruled the AL East all year is four games away from a World Series Championship.

Matt Garza was awarded the ALCS MVP as he notched two wins none bigger in his entire life that the game seven performance of a life time. Garza went 110+ pitches and seven tremendous innings striking out nine Red Sox batters.

The young kids who were suppose to die out from inexperience and should not have even been in the discussion for a playoff birth are now kings of the American League. Joe Maddon has proved that thinking outside the box is allowed and can be equally as successful.

So now the Rays and the Phillies will square off on the biggest stage of all, the fight for the World Series. The first to four wins. Carlos Pena vs. Ryan Howard. Scott Kazmir vs. Cole Hamels. Jimmy Rollins vs. Evan Longoria.

St. Petersburgh will be the site of the first ever World Series game in Tampa Bay Devil and Rays history. In three days the most important innings either of these teams will ever play will begin and someone will be crowned. Let the games begin...

Joba Takes The Heat, Charged With DUI

Yankees' pitcher Joba Chamberlain was arrested for allegedly driving under the influence, speeding, and having an open container of alcohol in his vehicle, according to an Associated Press report.

Deborah Collins is a spokeswoman for the Nebraska State Patrol. She says Chamberlain was stopped for speeding on U.S. 77 near his hometown of Lincoln, Nebraska, at about 1 a.m. on Saturday.

Chamberlain has apologized for "an error in judgment"

"I want to apologize to the New York Yankees and the fans for an error in judgment and for putting myself in a difficult situation," Chamberlain said in a statement released by his agent, Randy Hendricks. "I intend to properly resolve this situation, and do not intend to be in such a situation again. My goal is to focus on pitching for the Yankees in the 2009 season."

The Yankees appear to be behind their young pitcher.

"If he needs help, we'll certainly give it to him," co-owner Hank Steinbrenner said.

Tony Gonzo, Stayzo

According to two NFL sources familiar with the negotiations, the Packers had drawn up the trade paperwork and sent it to the Chiefs to finalize the deal, a third-round pick for Tony Gonzalez, only to have the Chiefs call them 10 minutes before the deadline to say it would take a second-round pick to get the deal done.

The Chiefs ended up keeping Gonzalez, who is now angry a deal didn't get done.

The Packers "sent the papers and everything, thinking it was going to happen," the source said.

According to the source, the Packers, New York Giants and Philadelphia Eagles all made offers — the Giants offering a fourth-round pick, the Eagles and Packers offering third-rounders. The source said the Atlanta Falcons and Buffalo Bills made better offers but Gonzalez wasn't interested in playing for either team.

Phillies Win the NL, Going To World Series

Behind seven strong innings from Cole Hamels, a 1st inning home run from Jimmy Rollins and two runs in both the 3rd and the 5th, the Phillies defeated the Dodgers 5-1 to advance to their first World Series since 1993.

Philadelphia busted the game wide open in the top of the 5th after three errors by Rafael Furcal.

Manny Ramirez supplied the Dodgers with their only run of the game in the 6th inning with a solo homers

Presidential Candidate Taking It Too Far?

Barack Obama is running ads within several sports video games, including Madden football.

The Obama campaign has purchased space in the popular Xbox 360 game "Madden NFL 09" and nine other titles by video game maker Electronic Arts, said Holly Rockwood, the company's director of corporate communications.

Only gamers playing online in 10 states can see the ads, which appear as stadium signage or billboards, Rockwood said.

All 10 states are swing states: Colorado, Florida, Iowa, Indiana, Montana, North Carolina, New Mexico, Nevada, Ohio and Wisconsin

Is it just me or is this taking it a bit to far? Campaigning in video games? yes the Madden video game is popular but the majority of the players are not eligable to vote. This is just going way out of the relm of reality...LITERALLY

What's Going On In The NFL After Week 6

Well the Dallas Cowboys are a mess. After their overtime loss to the Cardinals this week they got a slew of bad news. Tony Romo is out at least four weeks with a broken pinkie. Felix Jones is out two to four weeks. Adam "Pacman" Jones has been suspended four games for his incident last week. So what does Jerry Jones do? He trades a first, third and sixth round pick to the Detroit Lions for star wide reciever Roy Williams. Williams is scheduled to pracitce tomorrow and play this Sunday.

Coming into week six there were two undefeated teams; the Tennessee Titans and the New York Giants. The Titans had a bye so the Giants perfect record was on the line on Monday Night Football. Well this was a game that goes 100% to the Browns and the O-Line. Derek Anderson looked like a stud throwing for over 300 yards and a couple touchdowns with no turnovers. Braylon Edwards finally looked like a pro bowl wide out catching five passes for 154 yards and touchdown. The Giants defense was flat, the defensive line couldnt even get close to Anderson and in return Eli Manning threw three interceptions and the Giants lost 35-14.

The upset of the week came at the expense of the Washington Redskins. The Rams and new coach Jim Hasslett beat the Skins with a game winning field goal for their first win of the season, 19-17. The other team in the NFC East the Philadelphia Eagles played well and trounced the San Francisco 49ers 40-26. Another team that was winless coming into the week was the Houston Texans. They too got off the losers tree and won on a game winning QB draw with less than 15 seconds left in the game. The Texans can thank Andre Johnson for having a monster game with over 170 yards and a touchdown. The Texans beat the Dolphins 29-28.

The Falcons and Vikings were also last second winners. A Jason Elam feild goal from 48 yards away sealed it for the Falcons and a Ryan Longwell field goal for the Vikings gave them the W. For the Falcons they can attribute their win to two things. Matt Ryan and his progression as an NFL quarter back and the stupidity of the Bears. With 11 seconds left on the clock and the Bears ahead by 1 point all they had to do was kick it deep stop the return and play prevent defense for a hail mary. Instead the Bears squib kicked it and it was returned 10 yards to about the Falcons 50. With 7 seconds left on the clock Ryan threw an out route to the side line to Michael Jenkins for 28 yards to set up the game winning field goal with two seconds on the clock. DUMB MOVE CHICAGO.

The Colts and Peyton Manning got back to old form as Peyton threw for three touchdowns, two to Marvin Harrison and another to Reggie Wayne. The Colts beat the mighty Ravens defense 31-3. The Tampa Bay Bucs took care of the hot Panthers as Jake Delhomme threw three interceptions and no touchdowns as teh Bucs cruided to a 27-3 victory. The New York Brett's beat the Bengals 26-14. Thanks to Thomas Jones who had his best game as a Jet scoring three touchdowns. The Bengals are the only winless team left in the NFL.

So in sumation, the Tennessee Titans are still undefeated, The Giants defense didnt show up this week, The Colts and Chargers are looking like they are on the right track back to the top. Atlanta seems to know what they have in Matt Ryan and might make a playoff run. The Cowboys are desperate and even though they just brought in Roy Williams they will now have Brad Johnson throwing to him for four weeks. Oh and T.O is still there and now have to share the ball.

No Hair For You! ; Rays Reward Fandom

Zachary Sharples of Palmetto, Fla., celebrated the Rays' American League Divisional Series win over the Chicago White Sox by getting himself a "Rayhawk" -- a mohawk haircut -- mirroring the hairdos being sported by the AL East champs and their fans.

But when he took his new 'do to school, the seventh-grader was told the haircut violated the district dress code, which forbids hair styles that are a distraction. He was sent to in-school suspension.

Rays outfielder Jonny Gomes saw Zachary's story on the local news and decided to pay the boy back for his trouble. According to MLB.com, Gomes, after learning Zachary and his dad would be at Game 2 of the ALCS, provided two field passes for pregame batting practice and presented Zachary with a bat autographed by members of the Rays.

"The kid got punished for being a Rays fan," Gomes said, according to MLB.com. "What's wrong with that?"

And once Sharples walked out onto the playing surface at Tropicana Field, members of the team stopped by to greet him.

The experience was a memorable one for the lifelong Rays fan.

"I've been going to Rays games since I was 2 years old," Sharples said, according to MLB.com. "I went to the second baseball game [at Tropicana Field] ever."

So will he be shaving his Rayhawk any time soon?

"Not until they win the World Series," he said, according to the report.

The Rays lead the Red Sox 2-1 in the best-of-seven ALCS. Game 4 is Tuesday night in Boston.
------------------------------------------------------------

I will never understand the American school system, what in the world is a mohawk or "Rayhawk" doing to cause disruption in a class room and warrant a suspension. So the kids will look at the hair for 10 seconds and then its back to your regular programing. Please stop with all this nonsense. Let the kid be a fan, eight months ago the Rays could not pay people to be fans and come to the stadium. Now they are in the playoffs and are two wins away from the World Series and are selling out Tropicana Field. So what do the citizens of Florida do? suspend a kid for being a true fan. Get real...let kids be kids.

Cowboys In Big Trouble

No Romo...BIG PROBLEM

Sources are saying that Tony Romo has a broken pinkie and will be out 4 weeks. He suffered the injury in a 30-24 overtime loss to the Arizona Cardinals on Sunday. The injury is on his right hand which is his throwing hand.

The Cowboys are on a mini skid losing two out of their last three games after winning their first three games. Now with the devestating news that Romo will be out backup QB Brad Johnson will have to step in and lead the way.

The Next four weeks the Cowboys will face The St. Louis Rams, The Tampa Bay Buccaneers, The New York Giants and then their bye week.

Not good for the big blue stars.

Bats and Tempers Come Alive, Dodgers Get One Back

Tempers flared as the benches cleared, leaving Joe Torre and Jerry Manuel to become body and security guards. Hot heads cooled off but Hiroki Kuroda and the Dodgers sticks did not.

The benches and bullpens emptied in the third inning, moments after Los Angeles starter Hiroki Kuroda threw a pitch over Shane Victorino's head, with an angry Ramirez yelling at the Phillies during the skirmish.

"We just want to play the game right," Ramirez said. "We're a team and we need to protect each other. I wasn't trying to get anybody. I was there just in case anything happened. I just wanted to go out there and protect my teammates. I don't fight nobody. I'm a lover."

Kuroda used his off speed stuff to leave the Phillies off balanced. The righty went six strong innings giving up only five hits and two runs. The Bullpen for the Dodgers did their job as Cody Wade and Jonathan Broxton pitched the last three innings giving up only two hits and no runs while striking out three.

On the other hand, dinosaur Jamie Moyer got absolutely lite up. Moyer could not get out of the 2nd inning getting only four outs in the game while giving up six runs. Boy that age is catching up to him.

The Dodgers sprinkled 10 hits and scored seven runs getting back in the series as it is now 2-1 in favor of Philadelphia.

Now we move to game 4 as the Dodgers look to tie it all up. Will there be more wild pitches and bench clearings? We shall see.

Steve Nash To Toronto? Maybe Later...

Suns point guard Steve Nash says that he'd love to finish his career in Phoenix, but if not he'd be very happy to play in Toronto with the Raptors.

"I've enjoyed my success in Phoenix and would love to stay here," Nash said this week. "But if not Phoenix, playing in Toronto would be a dream come true in many ways."

Nash, 34, said earlier this month that he wants to play at least four more seasons. He'll most likely become a free agent in the summer of 2010.

As they currently stand, the Raptors will be roughly $25 million under the salary cap in 2010.

All Tied Up

What a game, game 2 was as the Red Sox and Rays were tied going into the bottom of the 11th inning. In a series which thus far featured great pitching, both teams brought out the whoppin' sticks tonight. seven home runs, 17 runs and a whole lot of subs.

Every game is now treated as if its the World Series and game seven.

With the series tied at 1 a peice, game 3 will prove to be a major momentum booster for who ever wins the game.

In game two pinch-runner Fernando Perez dashed home on a B.J Upton sacrifice fly in the 11th inning and the Rays outlasted the Boston Red Sox 9-8 Saturday night.

The teams combined for seven home runs, tying a postseason record. But after 1:30 a.m., the Rays won a game that lasted five hours, 27 minutes when Perez beat right fielder J.D. Drew's throw home.

The home run hitters for the Rays; Evan Longoria in the 1st inning. B.J Upton in the 3rd inning. Cliff Floyd in the 4th inning.

The home run hitters for the Red Sox; Dustin Pedroia in the 3rd and 5th inning. Kevin Youklis and Jason Bay in the 5th inning.

The Pitching was atrocious on both sides of the ball but none worse than Josh Beckett. Beckett coming off a rough outing in his time during the ALDS he follows now with 4.1 innings pitched giving up 9 hits and 8 runs all earned 1 walk and 5 strike outs. His E.R.A a beatiful 16.62.

For the Rays Scott Kazmir was not much better than Beckett. 4.1 innings pitched giving up 6 hits and 5 runs all 5 were earned, walking 3 and striking out only 2. Kazmir's E.R.A a impressive 10.39.

Outstanding rookie David Price got the win as Mike Timlin got the loss for giving up the game winning sacrafice fly.

For game 3 the pitchers will be Jon Lester for the Red Sox and Edwin Jackson for the Rays at Fenway Park.

Tim McCarver : Manny's Act's - "Despicable"

Fox broadcaster and long time baseball analyst Tim McCarver has spoken out about the often outrageous Manny Ramirez. McCarver said what Ramirez did to get out of Boston was despicable and basically threw Ramirez totally under the bus.

"It's extraordinary -- the dichotomy between what he was in Boston and what he is in Los Angeles," McCarver said, according to the Philadelphia Inquirer. "I mean, talk about wearing out your welcome in a town, and it was a long welcome with the Red Sox. But some of the things he did were simply despicable, despicable -- like not playing, refusing to play. Forgetting what knee to limp on. And now it's washed, it's gone."

Manny does seem to be a different player with the Dodgers, we see him laughing and playing hard. We also see him hitting like the real Manny does. Ramirez has lead the Dodgers in the playoffs offensively smacking homeruns and even running the bases like a hungry baseball player. In game 4 of the NLDS we saw Manny score on a base hit all the way from first base, something we have not seen in about a decade out of Manny.

And how great would it be to see Manny in the World Series go up against the Boston Red Sox and Manny hit .400 with 4 home runs and a couple of game winners. One can only dream...

Too bad the Red Sox wont make the World Series, The Rays will face the Dodgers.

Mets and Yankees Are Ready For C.C

Interesting article here published in the New York Post on C.C Sabathia and his relation to being a free agent this offseason. He will be a very rich man come next April and he will probably be in a new city. Check this out...
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
By: Brian Costello

MILWAUKEE - CC Sabathia smiled when told MetsNew York Mets fans are dreaming of a starting rotation that begins with him and Johan SantanaJohan Santana .

"That sounds good," the premier free agent pitcher of this winter told The Post.

The 28-year-old's season came to a close yesterday when the Brewers lost to the Phillies, 6-2 in Game 4 of the NLDS. He never got the chance to pitch Game 5, instead his final appearance of 2008 coming as a pinch hitter (he struck out).

Now he embarks on the free agency trail, where he probably will fetch around $150 million. Both the Mets and YankeesNew York Yankees are expected to be players in the Sabathia sweepstakes, but the big left-hander sounds lukewarm about leaving his native California for the East Coast.

"I like it there," he said of New York, "but we'll have to see what direction the teams are going and would my family be uncomfortable being on a whole other coast? We'll have to see."

Sabathia's wife Amber is due to give birth on Friday, so he said he probably will wait a few weeks before talking with agent Greg Genske about the plan for this winter. He does know he doesn't want the decision to take all winter.

"I want to get it done pretty quick," Sabathia said. "I try to be as stress free as possible. All that is is stress having it drag on all winter. We'll see what happens."

Sabathia said don't expect him to do one of those whirlwind free agency tours.

"I can guarantee you I won't be flying around, going to different cities," he said. "I've pretty much been to every city in the league. I've got a lot of friends around the league. They're going to have to come to me. I won't be spending my offseason flying around to different cities."

The Brewers acquired Sabathia in July from the Indians. Yesterday, Sabathia spoke glowingly of his time in Milwaukee, but the Brewers are not expected to have the cash to keep him.

He went 11-2 for Milwaukee and pitched four times on three days' rest at the end of the season. Sabathia said the heavy workload has not adversely affected him.

"I feel fine," he said. "I feel real good actually. I thought I'd be a lot more sore than I am actually. I feel real good. I really had no problems doing what needed to be done here down the stretch."

Week 5 Recap- Titans and Giants Still Undefeated, Peyton Plays Like His Old Self

Washington 23, Philadelphia 17

The Philadelphia Eagles (2-3) jumped out to a very quick 14-0 lead in the first quarter, but the Washington Redskins (4-1) had the last laugh on Sunday at Lincoln Financial Field. Brian Westbrook scored on a 9-yard run on Philadelphia’s first possession, and then DeSean Jackson returned a punt 68 yards after a three-and-out on Washington’s first drive. The Redskins hung around, thanks to spotless defense and three field goals through the remainder of the first half, and remained hot in the third and fourth quarters.

Washington took a 16-14 lead on an 18-yard pass by Antwaan Randle El to tight end Chris Cooley and put the game away on a 4-yard touchdown run by Clinton Portis in the fourth. David Akers kicked a field goal midway through the quarter to pull the Eagles to within a score, but for the second-straight week they couldn’t reach the end zone late. Donovan McNabb, 17-for-29 with 196 yards, and Jason Campbell, 16-for-29 with 176 yards, were nearly identical, but the latter was able to come away with the victory. Brian Westbrook, who started but missed time with a chest injury, has 86 total yards while Portis burned Philadelphia’s usually stout rush defense for 145 yards. Neither team committed a turnover.

N.Y. Giants 44, Seattle 6

The New York Giants (4-0) looked even better without Plaxico Burress on Sunday than they did in the first three games of the season with the elite receiver. The Giants drubbed the Seahawks (1-3) in East Rutherford thanks to the tremendous play of both Eli Manning and running back Brandon Jacobs. Manning went 19-for-25 with 267 yards and a pair of touchdown, with backup David Carr going 1-for-1 with 5 yards and a touchdown in garbage time near the end of the game. Jacobs rushed fifteen times for 136 yards and two scores in the victory.

Matt Hasselbeck continued to struggle, going 11-for-21 with 105 yards and an interception, as the Seattle offense had a very difficult time moving against New York. Receiver Deion Branch made his season debut for the team, grabbing three passes for 31 yards, but had to leave in the second half with an injury to his foot. Julius Jones rushed for 61 yards on seventeen carries for the Seahawks, who went 1-for-11 on third down. Giants' receivers Domenik Hixon, four catches for 102 yards and a touchdown, and Sinorice Moss, four catches for 45 yards and two scores, played terrific in the absence of the suspended Burress.

Miami 17, San Diego 10

The Miami Dolphins (2-2) have already won more games than they did in the entire 2007 season after they defeated the San Diego Chargers (2-3) at home on Sunday. Chad Pennington managed a terrific game, going 22-for-29 with 228 yards and a touchdown, while Ronnie Brown had 125 yards and a score of his own on the ground. Brown scored on a 5-yard run on a direct snap in the second quarter, the team’s new go-to play, giving Miami a 17-3 lead. The Dolphins’ defense didn’t force any turnovers, but they sacked Philip Rivers twice and held LaDainian Tomlinson in check.

Rivers went 13-for-28 with 159 yards and a touchdown while Tomlinson ran for just 35 yards on twelve attempts. Rivers connected with former-Dolphins receiver Chris Chambers for a 17-yard score in the third quarter, but San Diego wasn’t able to score again as Miami held on for their second-straight victory. Greg Camarillo was the game’s leading receiver with six catches for 68 yards, including a 17-yard strike from Pennington that gave the Dolphins the lead in the second quarter.

Indianapolis 31, Houston 27

The Indianapolis Colts (2-2) stormed back with seventeen points in the final four minutes as they knocked off the Houston Texans (0-4) at Reliant Stadium. Sage Rosenfels, who started in place of ill quarterback Matt Schaub, went 21-for-33 with 246 yards, one touchdown, and an interception in the loss while rookie running back Steve Slaton tore up the Colts’ defense for 93 yards and two trips to the end zone. Andre Johnson, Rosenfels’ top target, caught nine passes for 131 yards and a score as Houston took a 27-10 lead into the final five minutes of the game.

Peyton Manning, who looked confused in the first half, finished the game with 247 yards, two touchdowns, and an interception on 25-for-34 passing in the comeback win. Joseph Addai had 71 rushing yards and a score, but it was the defense that got Indianapolis back in the game with the clock seemingly against them. After Manning hooked up with Tom Santi in the end zone with 4:04 left, linebacker Gary Brackett forced a fumble by Rosenfels and returned it 68 yards for a quick score. Three plays later, Robert Mathis forced another fumble, which set up a quick connection between Manning and Reggie Wayne to give the Colts a 31-27 win.

Atlanta 27, Green Bay 24

Aaron Rodgers’ shoulder didn’t seem to bother him, but a late interception cost the Green Bay Packers (2-3) against the Atlanta Falcons (3-2). Rodgers went 25-for-37 with 313 yards, three touchdowns, and one interception while rookie Matt Ryan went 16-for-26 with 194 yards, two touchdowns, and an interception of his own. With the Packers trailing 20-17 midway through the fourth, Rodgers was picked off in Green Bay territory.

Michael Turner, who had 121 yards on twenty-six carries, scored on a 2-yard run after the interception to give Atlanta a two-possession lead with 3:35 left in the game. Rodgers led the offense down the field quickly, going 72 yards for a touchdown in 1:39, to trim the Falcons’ lead to just three points, but the Packers couldn’t recover an attempted onside kick. Turner then ran on three-straight plays, earning a first down, and Ryan kneeled twice to end the game.

Chicago 34, Detroit 7

The Chicago Bears (3-2) routed the Detroit Lions (0-4) on Sunday at Ford Field, thanks to tremendous play by their defense and quarterback Kyle Orton. The Chicago defense had four sacks, one interception, and a forced fumble against Detroit while limiting the Lions to just 185 yards of total offense. Orton went 24-for-34 with 334 yards and two touchdowns, connecting with Devin Hester and Matt Forte for the scores. Forte, who had 61 total yards, added a rushing touchdown in the victory.

Rookie running back Kevin Smith was the lone star for the Lions, with 56 total yards and the team’s only touchdown. Jon Kitna was 8-for-16 with 74 yards before he was forced out of the game with back spasms at halftime. He was replaced by Dan Orlovsky, who went 13-for-23 with 97 yards and an interception while leading the Lions on their only scoring drive near the end of the third quarter. The Bears did, however, intercept Orlovsky on his second pass attempt, with Charles Tillman bringing the ball all the way back for a 26-yard score.

Carolina 34, Kansas City 0

The Carolina Panthers (4-1) soundly defeated the Kansas City Chiefs (1-4) on Sunday after dominating in all facets of the game. Jake Delhomme went 14-for-22 with 236 yards, two touchdowns, and an interception while DeAngelo Williams ran for 123 yards and a pair of scores. Williams also caught a 25-yard touchdown pass from Delhomme in the second quarter. Carolina’s defense notched three sacks, two interceptions, and a pair of forced fumbles, as they held Kansas City to just 127 total yards.

Damon Huard went 10-for-21 with just 86 yards and two interceptions while Tyler Thigpen went 5-for-10 with 37 yards in the fourth quarter. Larry Johnson had just two yards on seven carries, and the Chiefs managed just 25 total rushing yards on seventeen attempts. Dwayne Bowe caught five passes for 57 yards, and tight end Tony Gonzalez made history, becoming the NFL’s all-time leader in receiving yards by a tight end with 10,075 for his career.

Tennessee 13, Baltimore 10

The Tennessee Titans (5-0) stormed back in the fourth quarter to knock off the Baltimore Ravens (2-2) and keep their perfect record intact. Kerry Collins went 17-for-32 with163 yards and two interceptions, and a timely touchdown strike to Alge Crumpler with 1:56 left in the game that gave the Titans the three-point win. The Ravens kept Tennessee’s ground game in check, holding Chris Johnson and LenDale White to just 48 combined yards as defense dominated the game.

Rookie Joe Flacco went 18-for-27 with 153 yards and two interceptions while Willis McGahee (64 yards) and Le’Ron McClain (51 yards and a touchdown) moved the ball well on the ground. The two teams combined for 316 total yards in the game, less than a good number of teams did themselves in Week Five. Each team punted four times, with Matt Stover’s missed 45-yard field goal at the end of the second quarter weighing heavily in the outcome of the game.

Denver 16, Tampa Bay 13

The Denver Broncos (4-1) held on for a big win over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers (3-2) at Invesco Field on Sunday afternoon. Jay Cutler wasn’t terrific, but he did enough, going 23-for-34 with 227 yards and a touchdown, to help lead the Broncos to victory. Michael Pittman and Selvin Young combined for 77 rushing yards while Brandon Stokley led Denver with six catches for 52 yards and a score in their three-point win over the defensively-oriented Buccaneers.

Brian Griese, who went 13-for-19 with 88 yards, was replaced by Jeff Garcia after injuring his arm. Garcia went 13-for-17 with 93 yards, one touchdown, and an interception in the close loss. Griese replaced Garcia as the starter after the team’s season-opener, and it was rumored that Tampa Bay was looking to rid themselves of Garcia soon after. Warrick Dunn and Earnest Graham tallied 133 yards on the ground, but the Bucs ran out of time as the Broncos got the ball with less than two minutes left and recorded a pair of first downs to preserve their lead.

New England 30, San Francisco 21

The New England Patriots (3-1) erased the memory of their embarrassing loss to the Dolphins in Week Three, thanks to a close win over the San Francisco 49ers (2-3) at Candlestick Park. Matt Cassel went 22-for-32 with 259 yards, one touchdown, and two interceptions, probably not enough to prove that he’s the man over rookie Kevin O’Connell with rumors swirling that the Patriots are close to making a quarterback change. Luckily for Cassel, New England ran for 144 yards and two touchdowns, both by Kevin Faulk, and the defense kept the 49ers from exploding.

J.T O’Sullivan went 14-for-29 with 130 yards, three touchdowns, and three interceptions. Frank Gore had 78 total yards and a receiving touchdown while Isaac Bruce caught three passes for 49 yards and a pair of scores. San Francisco sacked Cassel five times but couldn’t keep the Patriots from gaining yards on the ground. Both teams scored three touchdowns, but the difference was the three field goals kicked by Stephen Gostkowski as New England scored on six of their twelve drives.

Dallas 31, Cincinnati 22

The Dallas Cowboys (4-1) won a surprisingly close game over the Cincinnati Bengals (0-5) on Sunday at Texas Stadium. Tony Romo went 14-for-23 with 176 yards, three touchdowns, and an interception while Carson Palmer went 23-for-39 with 217 yards, two touchdowns, and an interception of his own. The difference was on the ground as Felix Jones and Marion Barber combined for 180 yards and a touchdown in the victory. The Bengals managed just 61 yards, between Chris Perry and the recently-signed Cedric Benson, in the game.

Palmer hooked up with T.J. Houshmandzadeh midway through the fourth quarter for their second touchdown of the game, bringing the Bengals to without two points of the Cowboys after a failed two-point conversion. On their next possession, Dallas converted twice on third down leading to a 15-yard touchdown pass from Romo to Patrick Crayton that gave the Cowboys a 31-22 lead with less than two minutes remaining.

Arizona 41, Buffalo 17

The Arizona Cardinals (3-2) handed the Buffalo Bills (4-1) their first loss of the season on Sunday after quarterback Trent Edwards went out with a concussion early in the first quarter. J.P. Losman replaced Edwards and played well, but the Buffalo defense was poor for the first time this season. Kurt Warner went 33-for-42 with 250 yards and two touchdowns in the victory while Losman went 15-for-21 with 220 yards, one touchdown, and an interception in the loss.

Arizona’s defense was feisty on Sunday, recording five sacks, grabbing an interception and collecting three fumbles. Edgerrin James and Tim Hightower, taking advantage of good field position, combined for 94 yards and three touchdowns against Buffalo’s usually stifling defense. The win gives the Cardinals sole possession of first place in the NFC West while the loss has trimmed Buffalo’s lead in the AFC East to just a half-game. AS the Bills will enjoy a bye in Week Six, they hope Edwards is healthy enough to face San Diego in two weeks.

Pittsburgh 26, Jacksonville 21

Despite falling behind early, the Pittsburgh Steelers (4-1) gritted out a tough win over the rival Jacksonville Jaguars (2-3) on Sunday night. Rashean Mathis intercepted Ben Roethlisberger on the first drive of the game, returning the ball 72 yards for a touchdown, but Pittsburgh hung tough and received an unexpected boost from running back Mewelde Moore. Moore rushed for 99 yards with several of Pittsburgh’s running backs out with injuries, and Roethlisberger finished the game 26-for-41 with 309 yards, three touchdowns, and the aforementioned interception.

David Garrard went 18-for-32 with 200 yards and a touchdown for the Jaguars, but the Steelers limited Jacksonville to just 38 rushing yards on nineteen attempts. Maurice Jones-Drew gave the Jaguars a 14-7 lead late in the first quarter, but the Steelers answered with thirteen points in the second quarter to take a lead into the half. After a scoreless third, Garrard hooked up with Marcedes Lewis for a 24-yard touchdown that gave Jacksonville a 21-20 edge. However, Roethlisberger found Hines Ward for an 8-yard score with 1:53 left in the game to give the Steelers the victory.

What Is Going On With the Angels and Cubs?

Arguably the 2 best teams in both leagues coming into the playoffs are now both on the brink of elimination. Both teams are a loss away from being sweep and sent home much earlier than expected.

The Angels have been out pitched and outhit by the Boston Red Sox. Behind the youngsters and Jason Bay the Sox have cruised by the Angels with ease. In game one John Lester threw seven strong innings followed by two scoreless innings by Justin Masterson and Jonathan Papelbon. In game two the score was tied going into the ninth inning 5-5. All time single season saves leader Francisco "K-Rod" Rodriguez served up a 2 run homerun to J.D Drew and the Angels found themselves in an almost insurmountable hole.

The Cubs are in the same boat. Labeled as the best team in the NL, and many saying that this was finally their year. 100 years in the making this was finally the year that the Chicago Cubs and their fans would not feel misery. But that does not seem to be the case. Manny Ramirez and company seem to be on a mission and Joe Torre is poised to get back to the World Series. The Dodgers have outscored the Cubs 17-5, nothing and no one on the Cubs seem to have a fire under them hot enough to want to win.

Lets get it together guys, the two best teams getting swept? Not a good look.

First Games In The Books

The MLB playoffs are officially underway and the first games had a major impact last night. The first game on the schedule was the Brewers @ Phillies. Followed by the Dodgers @ Cubs and the Red Sox @ Angels.

Behind Cole Hammels the Phillies were able to win a playoff game, for the first time in 15 years. Hammels pitched eight strong innings giving up no runs walking only two and striking out an impressive nine Brewers.

In the 9th inning the Phillies obviously brought in their closer Brad Lidge. Lidge got in some hot water as Ryan Braun doubled into the corner with a runner on first that made the score 3-1. Lidge settled down and got the final out on a strike out that gave the Phillies a 1-0 lead in the NLDS. Chase Utley's 2 run double in the third inning proved to be the deciding factor in the game.

Game 2 on the slate was probably the most exciting match up on the playoffs this seasons Joe Torre and the Dodgers facing Sweet Lou Pinella and the mighty Cubs.
The Dodgers came into the game as huge underdogs and behind the bats of Manny Ramirez , Russell Martin and James Loney who each had home runs, Loney’s was a grand slam, demolished the Cubs, 7-2.

Derek Lowe started the game and went six innings only giving up two runs while striking out six. While the Dodgers tattooed Ryan Dempster who gave up 4 runs, all earned while walking 7 batters.

The Red Sox take a 1-0 lead in the ALDS against the Angels as they win in the night cap 4-1. John Lester was remarkable pitching seven strong innings giving up only one run striking out seven and only allowing six hits. Jonathan Papelbon struck out the side to earn his first save in the playoffs.
