Presidential Candidate Taking It Too Far?

Barack Obama is running ads within several sports video games, including Madden football.

The Obama campaign has purchased space in the popular Xbox 360 game "Madden NFL 09" and nine other titles by video game maker Electronic Arts, said Holly Rockwood, the company's director of corporate communications.

Only gamers playing online in 10 states can see the ads, which appear as stadium signage or billboards, Rockwood said.

All 10 states are swing states: Colorado, Florida, Iowa, Indiana, Montana, North Carolina, New Mexico, Nevada, Ohio and Wisconsin

Is it just me or is this taking it a bit to far? Campaigning in video games? yes the Madden video game is popular but the majority of the players are not eligable to vote. This is just going way out of the relm of reality...LITERALLY

Dave it's Ali man whats up? After reading your recent post let me say that I think the idea of video games sending political messages is not that bad an idea at all. In a society were technology is an integral part of life and a young generation that is in ways apathetic towards politics and the history of our country; I think it is neccessary by any means to encourage young voters to go out and vote. Of course there are many people who are below the voting age in Madden but there are many who over the age of 18 with a wife and kids and have no clue who they should vote for.

The real question should not be is "video games taking it to far". the real question is, are show hosts such as Jay Leno and Jon Stewart giving young naive voters the wrong impression of presidential candidates? Dont you think these shows redicule these candidates more than educating them on what they bring to the table? I understand that Stewart and Leno are comedians however, im sure you understand that many young voters my age (18) use Jon Stewart and Jay Leno as a source of their politcs. So in my humble opinion if you want to send something encouraging and positive why not send through in video games which play a big role in our generations lives. I rather have political message on my video game to encourage the naive youth to vote than have people like Leno and Stewart give voters the wrong impression of the political candidates
